Yeast Infection and Sex...

I think I have a yeast infect.. It didn't itch earlier, it just hurt. I just noticed a rash, but now it's starting to itch.. If I do have a yeast infection and I decide to have sex, will that effect him? If it does, how bad will it effect him because he really wants sexual intercourse. (i have my period too.)

if you do have a yeast infection he can catch it, i only know this as i have recently had same problem and my partner got it. He got very red and sore. its not a sexual transmitted disease though. however i have had problems with thrush since losing my twins in may and he only now has got it. so its possible he might get it but unlikely. If he does get it he will just need to use anti-fungal cream 3 times a day for 10 days, even once it clears he should continue using cream for 4-6 days to make sure it doesnt come back. Make sure you do yourself too.

Some Docs say yes & some say no. I say yes! It makes sense that the fungus can be passes between partners since some women have unusually long episodes! And men seem to have an issue when they have been exposed. Skip sex both of you for now....go and get yourself checked and him! If you cannot help yourselves use condoms.

even if he doesn't get a full blown yeast infections, or show symptoms, he can pick up higher numbers of yeast, and as a result, he will keep re-infecting you after you have treated yours.

sera said it...condoms...especially if ur on ur period

Do they make a yeast infection cream for guys, or do guys use the same thing as women? Up until reading this ^ post, I didn't know how guys got rid of a yeast infection. I've never known, but it's something I've aways wondered.

Ughhhh...it's generic and depends on the prescribers choice.

i also heard that guys can just dip their penis in (plain, unflavored) yogurt for a few minutes to clear it up...
i also heard that guys can just dip their penis in (plain, unflavored) yogurt for a few minutes to clear it up...
I would not use this as a prescribed medical treatment. Otherwise we would treat yeast infections with yogurt douches (done years ago) and no medications...The purpose of yogurt is the Acidophilus as a preventive measure. Much when someone begins antibiotics, they should take in yogurt or Acidophilus supplements to help keep the body flora normal.

yeah, pretty much, but alot of people do use something like a yogurt douche...i think it only works if you catch it early enough though.

Some do, but it has to be early on. Very early! Much depends on the practitioner. I always tell patients if immunosuppressed or taking antibiotics take yogurt or Acido. It is worth the shot and will help sustain normal flora. If out of control meds should be used especially if a couple passes it back and forth!

Ok, so here's the thing... Back in April my girlfriend got really sick and she had to take antibiotics for a couple of weeks. After that, she told me that we couldn't have sex for a while because the antibiotics did something "weird" to her "down there". So we didn't for a week or so, afterwards I went down on her, and could tell that something was different in both taste and smell. I didn't what to say anything to her because I knew that she said she was taking care of it, and I figured there was no reason to mention it if she was already doing something about it. That went on for another 2 weeks, then she left for a internship for 2 months. She came back, and when I was going down on her again, I noticed the same taste and smell, only not as strong. We hung out for 2 more weeks and she left the country for learning abroad. I've been doing some reading and I've found that antibiotics can be the cause of a yeast infection. I think that may be the problem because I have noticed that I have a slight itch and smell myself:eek: ( hardly noticeable at all, and those are the only symptoms). I now know how to get rid of it, my question is, how do I tell her that SHE still has it:confused:

You just have to come out and tell her. There are OTC Monostat creams & suppositories which can be used to treat it. Antibiotics are major culprits for Yeast. She may not know she has it or may not realize it's not fully cleared. Be truthful. BCP's also leave women at higher risk for them. But Antibiotics throw off the normal flora; hence, an infection!

Well It's going to have to be via e-mail because that's really the only means of communication that we have at the moment. "Honey, I think that you may have a yeast infection" isn't really something that I've ever had to say before, but I think I can manage. My concern is how to type it out tactfully. I know that I have to tell her, but damn. Tell me how you would like to be told so I can just cut and paste it into an e-mail :D I know this sounds childish, and that I shouldn't have a problem just saying it, but I do, and thanks.

I'd rather know so I can be treated. Nothing wrong with just telling some one there is an issue down south....better then living w/it. I would understand....
