why glass dildos?

I searched some of the forums, but I didn't find a question quite like mine so here goes....I'm pretty sure that the title says it all. I am new to using dildos myself, and only have a rubber/jelly like one...which is ok but not great. I was looking at some online and I saw the glass dildo's and I was curious as to what the advantage is when they are made of glass as opposed to a softer material? Are they that much better when they are made of glass? Thanks! :o

Welcome to the SI101 Board and its Forums. I hope you enjoy participating. Thank you for your question. Perhaps the information in these links will help answer it.

I am told that the bottom line is that they can be sterilized in an autoclave, boiling water or even a microwave oven. Gel, and plastic dildos can harbor harmful microbes for a longer period of time and cannot be heat sterilized.

The dishwasher should work; I doubt I would want any dishes in there simultaneously though!

Thanks! I appreciate it!

Medical autoclave no, how about a pressure cooker or bottle sterilizer?
I only know about glass dildos from my S&M friends. Not that I know much about S&M, just good old timey B&D for me:p

*remembering an old college board rant about someone's roommate washing her anal beads in the dishwasher with dishes*

But yeak...Dishwasher & glass Foreign Bodies still make me cringe! The heat from them will sterilize--No dishes PLEASE!!!!

Too funny!

I wonder what about the glass after the dishwasher being put in the oven on "self-clean" mode...not certain of the temp though!

A material standpoint -

from what I've seen most sex toys are made of rubbers, jellys, and similar compounds. These are porous on a microscopic level and *will* retain bacteria, dirt, dust, and other small particles. They will also degrade over time. Silicon is much more durable and can be sterilized, though if it comes in to contact with silicon lubes or other silicon products, it can bond(melt) with them.

Glass can easily be sterilized and formed into lots of different shapes. I would definitely want a glass toy to be made of more durable glass such as Pyrex or borite silicate(or are they the same? Materials class was a long, long time ago so I might be wrong on that second name) as those compounds are much, much more durable when it comes to impacts as well as temperature change such as boiling to sterilize then putting it in cold water that would shatter normal glass.

Sexual functionality -
It will provide stimulation *exactly* where you intend to receive it. Whether you flex or shift inside, it's still going to move where you move it and in the way you want because it has zero bend or compression to it. Also, the human body perceives temperature change rates, not the actual temperature. This is why a metal toilet seat feels colder than a plastic or wooden one, even though they're probably at the same temperature. Glass will conduct heat much, much more quickly than the other materials I've listed, so if you keep a bowl of warm or cold water by the bed, you can plunge it in and really notice the temperature inside. While my gf and I both thought we would hate playing with cold temperatures since cold massage oil really turned us off, we were proven wrong by accident. After we'd each orgasmed a few times and were taking a brief break to get some water, she went down on me after having drank the ice water and it was amazing, so I did the same and returned the favor. Apparently we just needed to be sufficiently aroused before any temperature play and our bodies would respond in a very, very good way.

Interesting post. While I've never tried one I have tried other hard objects in my days of experimentation and never liked them much. The lack of any yield made for an uncomfortable experience. I'd always thought glass would be the same, but maybe not. I'm talking only for anal of course.

I know that there's a lot of talk lately about the materials in sex toys and if they are safe. I found a good resource that explains a lot about them - http://www.holisticwisdom.com/sex-toy-materials-glossary.htm - anyway, personally, I have a glass dildo and several silicone or plastic ones. I like the vibration that the silicone ones give and think that the glass one, while a beautiful piece of artwork, was not worth the money

I think it just all depends on personal taste as far as "feel" goes. I hate, HATE hard plastic toys and thought I would feel the same way about a glass, well, Pyrex toy. I couldn't have been more wrong! I actually really like mine, but it is curved, is not as thick as some of my silicone dildos and has bumps and ridges all over it. I love that it can be quickly and easily cleaned since it is a non porous material. I also like that it can be warmed up really fast in a bowl of warm water or in the tub. I will say that you really have to use lube to get the most out of it - add lube and it is so slick and feels great (to me).

So, really, it all just depends on what you like. I always say try it a few times to see if you like it. Just like different sex toys, each one is not for everyone.

I'll have to agree with you. Even if we say that this would be better and that would be nice...but it all depends on the user...but I would really prefer glass...

It's all about the feel

Glass feels slick and easy feeling going in (if well lubed ) even one with more girth has less resistance when sliding in and out. So,it's best to get one without bumps, ridges ,etc and also just get one that is very slighly angled about 1.5 to 2 inches from the tip to maybe hit the g spot and also sinceglass is so easy to slide,etc... you can rotate or twirl or rock it back and forth.Plus with glass you can go wider ,eventhough longer is the better way to go.You can get a decent girth 10 to 12 inch glass dildo and it gets lubed and u get lubed and u can go deeper than ever (slow at first of course ) and u can hit the g spot or that little knob( u know what I mean ) with the glass wand. Also , you can place it in a bowl of ice water a half hour before inserting ,or lay it on a heat pad on medium, cold I think is better.

Try one ,Adam/Eve has some ,or google it,let me know what u think.
