What kind of lubrication is appropriate for sex toys?

Hello everyone. What kind of lubricant is appropriate for use with sex toys? I do not want to get a lubricant that will deteriorate my toys. Some help would be appreciated.

It all depends upon what a toy is made of.
In general any water-based lube is fine.

Ah okay. Are there any kinds of toys that one should not use a water based lubricant on?

Not to my knowledge. This is why water-based lubes were created and why oil-based lubes should not be used with most condoms. In addition, a condom should be placed over a toy/dildo made out of silicone if you opt to use a silicone-based lubricant.

As an aside, if you haven't purchased a dildo yet, why not experiment with items around the house like a candle stick, carrot stick, small cuccumber or an English cuccumber, first before spending money?

Well I have tried dildos in the past so I pretty much know what I want.

Go for it. I hope this has been of help.

Enjoy!

Water based lubes are pretty much the safest bet in that they seem to be good with everything. However other types of lubes can be thicker and slicker, which is why people prefer them. All you need to do is look up the material of the toy you're buying and it usually lays out what type of lube is ok for it's use.

I have used KY, which is a little thick in my opinion. Now I use Astroglide.

Water based lubes are great for any toys and any person to person contact. Lubes that contain silicone should not be used with toys that contain silicone. The silcone in the lube can melt your toys if they do contain silicone. If you are not sure what your toy is made of then you should stick to a lube that is water based.

Have fun!

Another note. If you are using the toy on yourself or your partner, and if you havn't used the lube before, i would suggest using a small amount first just incase you are sensative to it..

One other note.

The "warming" lubricants do tend to warm things up a bit, but from what I've determined were NOT much of a lubricant. Things don't slide around as good with these "lubircants". :(

The flavored lubricants work fine, as do KY liquid or a "store brand" of KY liquid lubricants. Store brands are usually cheaper too.

This is true, my partner and i used it when it first came out..

I've tried a number of them, and my absolute FAVORITE is called Liquid Silk. It's water based and never ever gets sticky (as others can tend to get).

I also have a bottle of liquid silk in the nightstand drawer and it's certainly a favorite of mine. Lasts pretty long and feels good. Less expensive than astroglide. Comes in decent sized containers.

As to the warming lubes, I have tried K-Y Warming Liquid before and let's just say that I got "burned." Really a very uncomfortable experience IMO. I will not try it again.
