I'd appreciate any advice on this subject....
Try as I have, I can't find any info on the after effects of anal sex. My boyfriend and I want to try it out, but while we've read up on pre and during hygiene issues and of course how-to, I haven't found any info about what happens afterwards.
Condoms will obviously help with a certain amount of mess but what happens to the lube we use? I get the impression we need to use a ton of it, but does it leak out afterwards? Do you get wind afterwards? And what's this I've read about it taking time for your ass to go back to it's normal size?
Any advice or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. The more we know now the better it will be.

I gather that you have not yet had a rectal exam as part of your physical. As long as you do not insert anything much larger than what comes out, there should be no issue with returning to normal. I can't say that for the adventurous who want to try fisting!
Use a tissue to wipe and wash if necessary. Also, begin any anal play after bathing--the same goes for oral. Next, go to the bathroom sometime beforehand. Usually there will not be much if any mess if all this is taken care of.
"Tons" of lube are not required, however, a more than adequate amount is a prerequisite.

Just be aware "returning to normal" is not immediate and generally is the next day. You have stretched out a muscle which is not intended to be; so yes, you may also have some involuntary control of flatus [gas]. Also keep in mind the condom will have some "left-over" fecal material.
Doc points out the use of condoms they are necessary to prevent the introduction of infection. You may still wish to head for the bathroom afterwards to tidy up.
Any lube that is left internally usually gets absorbed (unless you've used half a bucket). That "open" feeling (for me) has never lasted more than an hour or so, usually less, and I've never had an issue with bowel control or gas. Some air can get pushed up there doing the act, so naturally that comes out.
