how long after the incident were u fingering yourself? if the pain continues you might want to go see your local doctor
well if its just the size that hurts, try masterbation or like LIGHTLY fingering, so it can stretch the tissue slowly instead of just ripping you open. ouch.
if its something else that makes you hurt, try seeing a doctor, cause something could be medically wrong.

when you guys were about to have sex.. were you totally relaxed?
because nervousness DOES take a factor on your vaginal muscles.
like littlegirl122 said, lightly fingering might work. in a bath or shower would probe be easier because its wetter..
if all else fails, get a pap smear :)
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the first time is never as pleasant as hollywood and romance novels make it out to be. There will be pain even if you have been fingered a bunch of times. Think logically about it, there is a definite difference in size between a phallus and a finger.
However you still may want to see a doctor just to make sure that nothing is truly wrong.
