It can be both consciously and involuntary.
You will not feel everything the first few times. And there is a good chance that your g/f is not squeezing. She has things to consider also the first few times.

When a girl has an orgasm, her muscles contract and release. A girl can also learn to train her PC (pelvic) muscles, increasing the muscles' strength (i.e. stronger orgasm for her, tighter vagina). If she practices this and squeezes her muscles during sex, it will mimic the feeling of a girl having an orgasm, and give this "massage" feeling you mention. However, most women don't necessarily orgasm during intercourse (only about 25% do), and not all women train their PC muscles, so you won't necessarily feel this.
Both voluntary and involutary - but if she had done it to you - you would know. There's nothing quite like it esp if she "ripples" the effect by gradually tightening the muscles in sequence.
This is something all women should learn. Makes me beg for more (not literally, just sometimes).
can you strengthen the PC muscles through sports and stuff, because my girlfriend has just about crushed my fingers when she tightens up, but she never does kegels, just a lot of sports?
