I've read a few of the Doc's posts about gently stretching it out in the bath etc, is that all that can be done or are there any other things that would make it easier and hopefully not painful at all?

We've done a bit of fooling around now, I fingered her a bit after a lot of making out and it didn't feel as tight as I expected. Though I did notice it squeezed pretty tight a few times, not sure if that was by her control or not. I don't think its going to be too much of a problem, but I think she is scared sex will hurt and has had pain in the past, she didn't want to go that extra step from messing around to sex. A good point, of course, and one that I completely overlooked. In the PUA community where I spent much time it was regarded completely as the man's lack of seduction ability if a girl wouldn't sleep with him, it meant learning new things and trying new things for it to happen. That went right over my head. Vacation cannot come soon enough.
Just an update for anyone interested. First time went pretty well, we had several hours of foreplay beforehand which got her very wet and there was a slight bit of pain to start with, but I went really slowly and pulled back when she said it hurt, then it was fine. No trouble at all the next few times.
I quite suspect her first (and only other) sexual partner was not very experienced and didn't turn her on properly, which led to her previous pains and subsequent hangups with sex, and the belief that she was very tight. She seemed rather surprised at how wet she got and impressed with the pleasure.
So thanks for the suggestions, worked out pretty well in the end.
