I read a thread that goes back to 2006, and I haven't found anything more after that. I find it surprising that there is not much talk about tantra in this forum and in these times. Even though tantra is generally associated to sex, in fact sex, is really a very small part of what tantra means.
I've been practicing tantra for quite a while now, I've been initiated by teachers in both left and right path, white and red tantra, and I've found that even though there is so much talk about sex positions, foreplay, games and everything to enhance the sexual experience, there is so little talk about the techniques to amplify the sexual energy in any given relationship. There is the breathing of course, but there are the mudras as well for example. I'm focusing on sex now because of the nature of the forum, but I do realize that tantra goes well beyond sex... it is a path to enlightment. But the ritual of tantric sex of maituna is a path to enlightment as well, although is not as easy as just trying an specific posture, some breathing and voila, instant enlightment, it is not a recipe to follow, but it is another way to reach full consciousness besides the fact of enjoying a sexual union nothing short of divine! (in a spiritual sense)

ok, the spiritual part it is quite interesting in terms of self development and personal growth, but the practical part is the enhancement of sex... there are up to 7 types of orgasm for men that can be experienced without loosing any energy, that is, ejaculating, something not widely known is that men can have orgasms without ejaculation. Women on the other hand, can have up to 9 types of orgasm, most women know only 3.
I guess it's hard to believe until you experience it yourself, as a tantra masseur and practicioner I've experienced it and help others experience it as well, and all I can say is that "regular" / "normal" sex it's a tiny fraction of our sex potential, we're capable of feeling and experiencing so much more, that the first time we have a tantra session, is like going to an all you can eat gourmet buffet after having eaten tofu all your life, it is that extreme. Help is required to reach those states, books can take you to just a small fraction of this potential. I strongly recommend to look for persons initiated that can move, distribute, expand and amplify the sexual energy!
Probably sounds like I'm trying to sell something, I assure you it's not the case, I'm just hoping I can make someone curious enough to experience it themselves and discover their sex potential...
Soo.. what is it?

double this for me
Can you please explain what tantra is to a person who has very very very slow net?
It is an ancient system of philosophy put into practice by some Hindus and some Buddhists. Incorporated are some sex techniques that have been picked up by some modern westerners. The sex is irrelevant without a proper study and practice of tantrism but people continue to try. Interesting but requires real dedication as any system of philosophy to really learn what it is all about.
Easy answer: check wikipedia
Ya tantra is more based off the believe and philosophies. Many people just try the sexual side, but there is actually an entire set of ideals that are necessary to even begin to fathom the sexual aspect.
As far as tantric sex its a belief that you can control your shakras and turn sex into a totally orgasmice experience (letting one orgasm flow to the next, essentially making sex into one big orgasm)
Tantric yoga is a small part of the overall spectrum of yogic practices and beliefs. However, without many of the underlying practices to support it, the tantric side of it will always fall rather flat. Those underlying practices include dhyanam (sitting meditation), pranayam (breathing exercises), jnana (intellectual study), bhakti (spiritual devotion), yamas & niyamas (moral guidelines) and dharma (right action). When one has mastered these practices (give it 15 to 30 years), then tantra can open fully and spontaneously in the mind, body, heart and soul. It can be a very wonderful and beautiful state of grace when achieved. I have been doing my practices (Vedic, Taoist and Buddhist) for 41 years, and have arrived at some large degree of tantric proficiency, which I will not detail here, but suffice to say, that can involve multiple while-body orgasms over a period of time which can be in the 4-8 hour range. Oh, and, btw--I will be 59 years old next month...!

Very nice, but one can do the whole body continuous orgasm experience for hours without the philosophy.
Easily if female, not quite so easily if male - but it can be done mainly by changing your attitude towards sex.
Certainly true, EEK, we can do that, but the unique aspect of REAL Tantric practice is that, in addition to amazing, joyful, blissful sexual union--a REAL good time--that state of bliss is then used as a ladder to climb to a higher state of consciousness. I don't like the term, "philosophy". because this is not a philosophy at all, but an experience-based series of realizations, or if you will, cognitions, regarding the ultimate nature of Reality--Enlightenment. We glimpse a preview of Unity and are strengthened and grounded in it. This then becomes not only good fun, but a spiritual practice. Nothing like killing 2 pirds with one stone...
