I am 17 and have been using a tampon since I started my period when I was 12. I started using pads but I did not like them so I stopped. I don't know if it's the brand I'm using, but when I wear a tampon I itch. I would take a guess and say that it may come from dryness, but I would also venture a guess that tampons shouldn't make your vagina itch. I have used tampax pearl and regular (normally I weat tampax), and playtex beyond and regular. Does anyone have suggestions on a different brand that will not itch? Or does anyone know if this is completely normal or maybe some tips on how to stop it?

Tampon trouble

Depends on the degree of itching. If bad see a doc. Use non-scented ones, that helps and have heard a few complaints out mild itching (usually due to the string) try to reposition it.
Almost all tampons available in the usual stores are made of synthetic materials. There are a few available that use only natural materials, mainly cotton. Some stores carry them and there are many sites on the web that have them. Even some of the major manufacturers have them. Sera is spot on against the scented or anti-odor tampons. Some women react tothose chemicals. Other women react to the synthetic materials.
Try natural tampons. If the problem persists, see your doctor. You may also consider investing in a menstrual cup, preferably of silicone. I have used both the latex (for seven years) and silicone for longer. The initial cost is high but they last a long time. Do a search for the Keeper, Diva and Mooncup.
