First off, I'm a gay male. About a month ago, I experienced my first sexual encounter, with a guy who is a lot more experienced. I was all set to play safe and had condoms and such on hand, but somehow before I knew what was happening, I was inside him, sans condom.
So I guess my question is two-fold:
1) In anal sex, can the "top" (penetrator) pick up diseases from the "bottom" (penetratee)? If it matters, I did not ejaculate inside him. I know I'm clean, and he says he is, but I don't really know the guy that well.
2) Should I get checked out for STD's? If so, how do I do this? Go to my general practitioner and ask for the one night stand special?
I have no symptoms that would suggest that there are any problems, but I can't have sex with anyone else until I get this issue cleared up.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Got the results back today: squeaky clean! Many thanks!
Brandye, many thanks for your reply. I went to a clinic today and got tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and herpes. I should have results by Friday and will post.
I amdire your intent and desire to practice safe sex, especially the part that you feel you cannot have another sexual encounter until you get resolution.
STDs can be passed either way during anal sex. Whether or not you ejaculated is irrelevant. During anal sex there are body "fluids" jammed up the urethra. It would be in your urethra where the disease would get its start. Many of the more common STDs, especially gonorrhea, would have shown up by now by causing burning during urination or dripping from the urethra. The more serious ones, especially HIV, would show no symptoms yet. And the symptoms would not necessarily appear first in your genitals.
You can, and should, go to your doctor or sexual disease clininc nearby. Depending upon the country and local laws most major cities and some smaller towns have these. Anonymity is guaranteed.
The chances are greatly in your favor. The risks, however, are very large. Do get checked out and, in future, have some kind of agreement before the two of you all worked up.
I have never been asked for the "one night stand special" but I may list it on the services offered board at the surgery (clinic in US).
