So... Vaginal atrophy.

Apparently it's not just post-menopausal women who can have atrophied vaginas. I had a visit with my gynecologist this Wednesday, to discover the cause of my consistently painful and impossible attempts at penetration, and it appears that my vaginal muscles have atrophied somewhat. I'm only 20 years old, so it's surprising to hear something like this, but my doctor thinks my body doesn't produce quite as much estrogen as it's supposed to, which may have sped up the atrophy process (along with being a virgin who has never used tampons).

She gave me samples of estrogen cream to try and strengthen the muscles, but I'm also curious if there's anything else I should do. I've heard Kegel exercises are good. Does anyone have other suggestions for exercises, products, or treatments? (I can't do penetration yet, so it will have to be something non-invasive for now.)

Thanks for your time and attention!

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone has had experience with this problem and overcoming it, I would much like to hear your (hopefully successful) story, as well!

Post menopausal at a early age here but always did my kegels and have not had any atrophy...but I was sexually active.

Try the cream and begin the kegels. Learn to strengthen the pelvic floor!

Regular use of vaginal stents, or some similarly shaped device (no need for an expensive dildo) will helkp keep the muscles toned. Along with kegels.

Welcome back! :)

I was thinking that maybe you could try a vaginal egg if you feel like you could handle that.
