Now, I have a feeling that I may be the only one relatively annoyed about hearing about different types of orgasm. I know of the possible 3: clitoral, vaginal, G-spot.
Now while I'm imagining that I'm at an ice cream shop choosing my preferential orgasm "give me a large helping of clitoral with a G-spot, vaginal mix..." one cannot help but become increasingly flustered about what type of an orgasm qualifies as a "real orgasm"
Now, from what I've acquired. An orgasm by definition is a series of uterine contractions.
On that note, why are there so many different types of orgasms?
Why do we have the labels?
Do the labels even matter?
Please take this posting with humor and curiosity. :D
:rolleyes:Isn't it enough that women are already stressed out on trying to figure out how to have one?
...although, I do wonder what a long 15 minutes orgasm feels like, I know it's possible...

I believe that in more objective technical terms it doesn't matter what type of stimulation resulted in the orgasm. The orgasm is the result of stimulation. And there are a lot of ways of stimulation to get there. The 3 types of orgasm as mentioned are in fact 3 ways (and being only a few of them ;)).
From a more subjective point of view, you may experience different intensities of orgasm that seem to originate from different places, radiate to different parts of the body, cause mental/emotional/physical responses that may differ from time to time, etc. (I know I do!:)).
I'm not sure if someone has ever done a study on measuring physical activity and subjective experience and how those relate to eachother. Would be interesting...
Why do we label?
Short: because our brain likes to classify :) It's how we make sense of the world; how we're able to have expectations, how we develop general plan of actions according to specific situation. Our brains do not like making up the same thing several times; it's far more effective to apply classification and logic.
Question is; how do we use labels?
We can use it for science (same purpose; making sense of the world) or helping people (making the world more sensible :))
Or we can use it to lecture, belittle, mock or even exclude.
From my point of view; as interesting as it may be, much more important than what Daedone or Komisaruk think, is what women experience. It is every individual for him/herself who knows beyond doubt when orgasm has occurred.
Which I understand fully...what I don't get are the labels and the emphasis of those labels in which one or the other is a better orgasm.
Why are there so many labels of what seems to be a "better orgasm"...?
Men only have one, they ejaculate and that's it. There is their orgasm, contraction...done
Do women really have different types of orgasms?
Do you kinda see where I'm going with this?
an orgasm is a response of the nervous system, there are people who have orgasms from non sexual stimulation, such as brushing teeth, or stroking eyebrows.
perhaps the deep vaginal orgasms are better to some because the orgasm is internal and goes through out the body. where as others focused just on the area. either way they are all orgasms so nothing to dislike about them.
and men are able to have prostate orgasms, and can be stimulated far more than the penis. a man can be multi-orgasmic with prostate stimulation, i have heard as many as 12 in a row from a guy.
somewhat repeating what RR said we label because we want to understand how to achieve an orgasm over and over, instead of just guessing how it happened.
this article is passing along good info, telling women they need to be able to focus and clear their mind. the brain is extremely important for sex. it would be clearly evident if the man was not focusing on sex and became unaroused.
SG - stop it.
One type of orgasm is no better, no more mature, etc than any other - PERIOD.
ALL orgasms are GOOD orgasms.
The labels are there to pinpoint which area is being stimulated at that time - nothing more is meant and stressing out over sex or orgasm guarantees you won't have one so just tell them all to shut up, go out, get laid and leave you alone.
Frankly, if pc muscle contractions lasted for months, I'd get my self to the ER in a hurry.
"It changed the way I viewed myself," said Notaras, 35. "I thought I was not a sexual person and now I realize every woman has capacity for pleasure and sex." -DUH!
The man and the woman connect in a way that is very relaxing and easy and simple for her...All she has to do is lie back and receive." -and think of England? And she differs from a sex doll how exactly?
Sorry, but this sort of non-involvement "let's all sit under the pyramid" stuff irks me and must get BORING "Here, honey, just slip it in while I fall asleep and snore."
Shame the authoress isn't here so I could get a good brick-slam in.
I too feel your frustration and annoyance over the types of orgasms as portrayed in pornography and lituarture. My own DH for years went on expodition to unearth and stimulate my G-spot, which I still to this day swear I don't have one. I felt more like an excavation site as oppsed to a woman (who came to hate his constant digging and delving for the ellusive spot by the way). He had it in his mind, and I'm sure his ego had allot to do with it too, that unless I had a G-spot orgasm or better yet, a squirting orgasm I wasn't being satisfied to the fullest and therefore he wasn't doing his best to satisfy and please. I really did appreciate his desire to please me in every way possible but the pressure on both of us to meet this "standard" of sexual satisfaction was exhausting and unnecessary since I was already acheiving wonderfull orgasms both alone and together anyway.
Before anyone suggests that I explore on my own or use toys designed to stimulate the G-spot, I/we've been there and done that alreay and it's not someting I'm the slighest bit interested in pursuing. My clitorus and state of mind is all I want or need to experience orgasm and as EEK stated so well, any and all orgasms are exquiste and wonderfull and I'll take as many as I can get! And, I/we know how to get them!!!!!
Sex is natural that many will have to make my life ...

I need to adjust this quote, as there has been an interesting study on physical stimulation & activity in the brain, confirming the subjective experience that vaginal stimulation is different from clitoral:
