Skinny Vs. Curvey

Hi everyone:
I'd like to ask an age-old question here....and it's a topic that has been debated and discussed a million times, I'm sure.
The ideal woman's body shape/size has changed dramatically throughout the decades. Today's ideal woman is very thin, sometimes waif-like...as depicted in magazines and in the media. What are your opinions....both men and women. I want to know what type of shape/size YOU find ideal, attractive in terms of women's bodies.
Now, there is no right or wrong answer and I will probably be criticized for asking this question in the first place. I was just curious to see if the media depicts what men and women REALLY find attractive.
Personally, I have always been kinda small, both height wise and weight wise and I have always wished to be curvier. I think women who are a size 10-14 have the prettiest curves and body shape but that is my own opinion. I know some prefer smaller and some prefer bigger. What do YOU prefer? ....and please, no nasty comments, only opinions.

As a woman I prefer to be thin, not bones & not fat. Most important is health so cardio & weight training works for me. Thin but some defined muscle--not the stuff which wiggles around. I hate that on myself & refuse to have it. You also find this changes with age, keep in god health and exercise...you will look fine. Mother nature takes it's own toll!

I like both, but not to the extremes of wafer thin and flabby. I've seen gorgeous, thin girls and I've seen nice, voluptuous, thick women too.

Had a presentation about this in Sociology.
It was explained that as females gain more and more power in this society, the media (male dominated) tries to oppress by making them take up less space (be less imposing) and guys the opposite.
I personally think it's what we want to see, these extremes of unrealistic beauty. The only thing that's changed is imaging technology allowing such to be made.

Hey, where's the option for "solid"? :D I'm not skinny by any means, but I wouldn't call myself curvy either. I'm more on the pear-shaped side, and very well muscled. My personal ideal of female beauty is more on the lines of proportioned- you're built how you're built, and though I admit to finding slimness attractive, I don't expect a well-proportioned curvier woman to get kicked out of bed on the basis of her shape. (I'd expect her to kick back!)

To be honest, I dont care too much either way...I mean annorexic, no....and if it starts to affect your health because of too much weight then no.

I find the most attrctive to be petite with a slightly curvy build. Not rock hard well toned, actually more on the soft side...soft yet toned behind, legs, tummy, arms are all great. I think it makes it more comfy to lay on a girlfriends tummy when its soft enough to be coushiny, but not to where your head is lying on quicksand, and 2 minutes later you disappear. :p

LMAO....Ducy! "but not to where your head is lying on quicksand, and 2 minutes later you disappear.".......HAAHAHAHAHA!

I like slender and curvy.

It's a very hard standard.

My girl friend used to be a dancer, so she has the dancer body, but it isn't rock hard and still in condition. It's nice, soft, and well shaped.

Well, I think that both slim and curvy women can be attractive, but not at the extremes. There is nothing attractive about anorexia or extreme obesity. But I tend to agree with Dawn80. I do like women with curves. There is something about a size 10 to 14 woman with nice curves in the right places that is a real turn-on.

Curiously perhaps, I used to have the opposite view when I was very young (in my teens). I used to think that only slim girls were attractive, and all the others were 'too fat'. I guess I was just being influenced by the stereotypes of the time. But, oh, how my views have changed. I noticed that as I got older, I started abandoning the sterotypes, and developed a much greater appreciation for the variety that is present in the female form. But, boy, those curves do it for me now!

I have been a size 16 forever; except when pregnant. But then I am also 5' 9" tall - just how I'm made. The word most men breathe upon seeing me naked is "magnificent"!

I think it is your fitness level that matters most however. Whatever size you happen to be is fine as long as you are healthy, full of joy, full of life, and fit.

You can tell when youve gotten too thin - you start catching colds and feeling ill more often. Gain about 5 pounds and you'll be, most likely, at your ideal weight.

Oddly enough, I like my men to have a bit of meat on their bones! And some fur on that meat! LOL Cyclefreak - when are you coming to visit me? I have a few curves.

I prefer women to have a little meat on their bones. If I can see ribs or I can count the vertebra in your back, then I'm going home. But, as has been said, every womans body is different, looking and being healthy is most important.

I guess I have always envied the Venus...the god of love...basically the ideal women. I find a women with a soft shape sooooooooooooo HOT!...Guitar shaped!
I have always wanted to have the curves of a "real" woman. I will eat more peanut butter and olives to accomplish this. (That is healthy fat, right??? Omega 3-6-9....) I want hips and ass...not high cholesterol!
Booty!!!!!....here I COME!

Excuse me? Venus...god of love?? Goddess! thank you very much! Gender identification is soo important!

I guess size all depends on how DESPERATE a guy is to get laid! Let's face it.. it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier to get laid by a chubby than it is a fine toned "I'm taking care of myself" babe!..all depends if you as a guy can be UP TO THE CHASE!
I guess size all depends on how DESPERATE a guy is to get laid! Hmmmm....

Opps...GODDESS....of love...

So HardnGood - yes, we all know guys are desperate but you're saying their choices depend upon the DEGREE of that desperation? Okay - what scale are you using? BBW = hasn't been laid in 12 years?

Evil, you are very insightful and quite observant. Bravo to you...:)

huh thats pretty funny...so "curvier" woman are more desperate for whatever they can get? How come every girl that I know who is slim, and likes to dress very "thin" i.e. spaghetti string tops, skirts etc. Sleep with every guy they can get?
So HardnGood - yes, we all know guys are desperate but you're saying their choices depend upon the DEGREE of that desperation? Okay - what scale are you using? BBW = hasn't been laid in 12 years?
sorry but I'm not that desperate!! BBW..not been laid in 12yrs?? obviously she has MAJOR mental issues ...as a caviat...if it was required to satisfy some sort of self esteem issue, I could find a paper bag and give her a proper RAILING...not for me of course...just for her!! ROFLMOA:eek:

Im confused....BBW? Explanation por favor

Sounds good to me, EEK. Obviously I meant size 10 to 16! Grrrooowwwwl. ;)

Leave it to a guy to misinterpret. Okay I will spell it out.
"If he's dating a Big Beautiful Woman then HE must not have had sex in 12 years."
You judge the degree of the MALE's desperation by the size of the woman he's dating.

*deep throaty purrrrrrrrrrrrrr at cyclefreak*

Again, EEK puts things into perspective. Your posts are always
worth musing over. It seems the longer you live, the more you
realize that what's right for one is wrong for another and
vice versa. Isn't desperation a relative term??

Oh ok thanks for the definition lol. I had a feeling that this was the case. I dont think size affects how desperate someone is. I mean my friends fairly large and shes got a boyfriend who is pretty hot...and this coming from another guy.

So in theory the skinnier a guy is the less desperate he is. I guess I should date a skeleton since im not "desperate" in any way for sex right now.

Of course "desperate" is a relative term. BTW I was just kidding - playing off of HardmGood - with the scale put forward. I do not believe that your size is anything but relative so long as you're healthy, and active.

Exactly right EEK. Being fit can come in a variety of packages. I thought
perhaps you were "speaking" tongue-n-cheek on the scale issue. Of course, it
was done with a great deal of class.

Oh no i figured you were going off of HarndNGoods scale. Besides you have never seemed to be one who would bash others...without good reason of course

I find all the CLASSY clothes come in sizes 10-14. People think all the great clothes come in smaller sizes, but I dissagree. I am about a size 4-6 and all I can find is slutty, tight, ugly clothes designed for teenage girls! Everything in the store that is classy and sleek is always a size 10-14...or designed to best fit a 10-14.
I'm still doing the olives and peanut butter thing....but no luck yet. I keep asking my fiance if my butt is growing and he does the cheek-cupping test....but no luck yet.

Alot of men have similar problems with finding nice clothes (maybe for a
different reason). For example, if a man is an "athletic cut" pants can be
a NIGHTMARE to find off of the rack even at nice upper end clothing
stores. The "athletic cut" is usually over 6 feet in height coupled with a
narrow waist and bigger thighs. This is a bad combination to try and find without serious alterations. That begs the question what does the
fashion industry consider the standard for an average male and average female as far as sizes are concerned. Do they produce their seasonal lines to hit that "average." That be interesting to know.

I have trouble finding shirts to fit. I'm 6'1" tall, fairly slim, but have long ape like arms. If a shirt fits me around the body, the cuffs usually end up halfway between my wrist and elbow. Conversely, if the arms are the right length, it usually fits like a tent around the body. I just wish that clothing manufacturers would realise that not everybody has an average proportioned body.

Yes, similar height here. The term that I always here used by the clothing people is "athletic cut"----broader shoulders, taller lengths, narrow waists, and "generous cut" in the seat area. BUT even if you fit those proportions, it seems that a proper fit is SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE. It has always been a very frustrating ordeal for me to say the least. To be able to get a proper fit in the seat area, you have to get a waist size that is 2 to 3 times to big. Of course, I know that there is NO ONE SPECIFIC NORM but, as mentioned earlier, what is average or the norm when it pretains to fashion in both men and women? On a more positive note, THANKS GOODNESS FOR TAILORS.

They cost a small fortune but if you are in good shape they do look very nice. And purchase a few over time! You'll find they are well worth it.

People - you buy big and then have them tailored/altered to fit. For example: Cycle fit the hardest part (arms) and then have the rest taken in. Tailored shirts cost approx $40 per for both shirt and fitting.

The cost is close to evils; what I find the greatest variable is when you get into the fabric choices! Egyptian cotton with subtle prints embossed in the white! They feel so nice to the touch. Another factor is the cuff styles...French or not. Much depends on what you want to wear them for. Both my brother and ex-fiance required customs due to being in shape, athletic cut, sleeve length, and neck size. My brother needed just a few dress shirts, my ex needed business attire (formal and suit shirts); the fabrics? well, that was my pitfall to helping the choice! I like the feel & texture of certain fabrics--classic looks.

Yes, classic pinpoint oxford cloth, broad cloth, egyptian cotton are all nice
fabrics. I definitely do what EEK suggested buy a touch larger and then
have them taken in around the waist if they aren't specifically made. By far
the easiest approach. No problems on the shirts for me. I suppose my intent
was to see if anyone knew what the "fashion" industry considered typical.
For example, when mass producing men's suits is a 6 or 8 inch drop from the size
of the coat to the size of the pants typical?? 42 coat=36 pants I fall into your
fiance's category Sera---if not for custom make and/or tailoring I would be lost.

Typical pant length (not inseam) was 36 length for jeans...34w, 36l. I found purchasing suits for him to buy ones which were easy to tailor; Claiborne & Armani leaves many unhemmed on the length...therefore I went for the best fit on the waist & Jacket. I many times, in a bind, has his done at a bridal shop since they worked fast and were accurate. His shirts were form the local men's clothing store which specialized in shirts & specialty shirt fabrics. Often he required french cuffed shirts. And during occasions it's nice to remove the jacket (while flying) and have a nice tailored shirt w/a good silk tie and pants which draped properly. Then you get in the socks & shoes, LOL! Are you sure you are not my ex-fiance? LOL!

Don't ever forget about the perfect set of CuffLinks.........monogrammed
is never a bad idea......of course, they must match the belt (sterling silver
or brass colored).....I think maybe it's time to go shopping.........or
maybe jogging.........LOL

Do the words "Clothes Horse" ring a bell with you???
Do the words "Clothes Horse" ring a bell with you???
Yes, as person and as a store by that name.

Never heard of the store. I was being sort of tongue-n-cheek.

My thing with suits is that small fluctuation between a man's shoulders and the neck of the jacket - that MUST be smoothed out. I like to see a smooth fit through the shoulders and down the back. Most stores that sell suits custom fit them right then and there. When it comes to suits, I am VERY particular.

Now with jeans, I prefer a sleek but not skin tight fit around the loins, esp in the back, and a somewhat loose fit around the thighs esp around the top of his thighs.

No cuffs on the pants EVER!

One thing is for certain, EEK you KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE.
That, to me, is very refreshing in this day and time. There seems to
be a great deal of "sitting on the fence." The jean fit you refer to I believe
is called the "relaxed fit." Normally, those jeans are better for "athletic
cut" type guys.

Yes, "relaxed" fit is the term, I believe. One thing for sure, I DON'T like those too big pants guys are wearing. I want to check out their rumps!! Not their undies. At least not yet.

It also looks like it would be terribly uncomfortable wearing pants
that felt like they were falling down constantly. Proper fit and tucked
in just the right spots is the ticket. It also let's EEK see the "rumps"
she is referring too.

I think the ultra baggy stuff that some guys wear is hilarious. You get these guys who wear stuff like that because they think they look cool, or have 'street cred' (whatever that is), but I reckon it just makes them look like circus clowns. All they need is a bright red strap-on nose and oversize flat-foot shoes to complete the image.
:D

Lol! I think they SHOULD get "street-cred" for having the ability to walk around in those pants all day and not have them drop to their ankles....now THAT is a talent!!! (Sarcasm!)
Every time I see a guy wearing pants half way down his butt-crack....I really have to resist the urge to run up and yank them the rest of the way down and finish it!!!!

reminds me of ways of the plumber who is bending over...I am seeing things I never wanted to. Same hold true with the over done pants...a nice pair, I can see what is essential to me.

Now you are talking about "the plumber's Crack." You are too funny.
What is "street cred" I am out of the loop on that term...........

just say NO to crack
