It would have to be an absolutely filthy showerhead or contaminated water. If in doubt, take it off clean all the lime off it and soak in vinegar water (1:2) for twenty minutes.

thanks! i kinda get nervous knowing all the mold/bacteria that can grow in a shower!
If you clean it regularly it won't harm you.
