Sexual Side Effects of Pills

My wife was recently put on Lexapro. One of the side effects according to WebMD is 'loss of sexual desire.' Does anyone out there know anyway we can combat this side effect?

Alright, I was just curious. She has only been on it for a little more than a week, I was just curious because we both want to she just can't get into it so to speak. I basically wanted to know if there was something extra we could do or if we just had to wait it out. The dr told her that this particular side effect would only last about 2 weeks, but I figured I could do something special for her in the interim.

Just be there to support her.

Lexapro is supposed to be one of the safest antidepressant medications with the least side effects...

How long has she been on it?

It may be that she is just learning to adjust to life with her new "self". It can be very difficult for people to return to ordinary everyday activities when they have such a major change. Maybe she just needs time to adjust.

Oh sorry.. I don't know why I assumed it was birthcontrol. I have taken antidepressants before and yes they definitely affected my sex drive - more particularly my ability to orgasm. I looked into that issue a lot and unfortunately there is nothing as of yet that can alter that side effect. I think I heard of one combination of drugs once but I personally wasn't interested because I didn't want to take more medication (which could also come with more side effects). The hope is that a new and effective antidepressant will come out that doesn't effect sex drive. Zoloft is suppose to have less of an effect on sex drive.

Also, I would like to say that it would be best to not ruminate too much on this side effect because you can end up convincing yourself that you simply have no sexual desire when infact it does not compress it completely. I personally still had desire, it just took me twice as long to come.

Lexapro isnt a birth contol pill, it is an antidepressant used to treat frequent panic attacks

I don't know if any birthcontrol pill really effects sexual desire. But if she believes so, there are tons of other birthcontrol pills to chose from.
