Home remedies for yeast infection?
Ok, so I'm pretty positive I have a yeast infection; all the typical symptoms. AS a personal health choice, I've been making a point to avoid taking OTC and prescription drugs if possible and safe, so I was wondering about using yogurt to treat a yeast infection. I remember reading once about it being a common do it yourself treatment and I was wondering if anyone else is familiar with this, particularly those of you with actual medical knowledge.
As much as I would like to avoid the pharmacy, I will gladly go pick up some Monistat if using yogurt isn't going to work or would make the problem worse. Any input is appreciated ![]() |

Thanks for confirming that for me, I'm entering day 3 now... I think it seems to be working out. I'm actually using Kefir, because I always have it around and I know it has active cultures. I didn't think to use a pastry bag. I've been soaking tampons in the kefir to get it up there, then using my fingers to wipe more all around the opening. Do you think that is effective, or should I try to rig up a pastry bag (I don't actually have one but I think I could make one) I also considered freezing the yogurt inside of tampon applicators and inserting it that way, but I don't know what kind of effect freezing has on the cultures.
Either way, it seems to be helping. It doesn't burn when I pee anymore, and I'm not as itchy. Also, cranberry juice ![]() |

Tampons will get some in there but to carry enough they would expand to the size of a used tampon. Difficult to get that back in!
A bit in a douche ball whilst lying on your back or use whatever other applicator you have around.

Hi,
While there are many conventional over the counter treatments for yeast infections – the majority do not address recurrent yeast infections. They provide a temporary solution and fail to locate and address the root cause of yeast overgrowth.Apple Cedar Vinegar helps restore the natural pH of the vagina. Add around 3 to 4 tablespoons of vinegar to a bathtub filled with a small amount of warm water and simply bathe in it for 15 to 20 minutes. |

Rouge, sorry, I know of no adequate home remedies for UTI. Cranberry juice may beat it back a biit but will not likely eliminate it.
Sitting in a vinegar solution will only do some good for the externals. The labia menora keep us sealed from water inside. The old vinegar douche, which is the only douche worthwhile on those rare occasions when any is indicated, would help. One part vinegar to two parts warm water. Good for soaking toys diaphragms, menstrual cups or anything else that goes in there. Also the preferred douche for those days you have too many dates! The vincegar does not get the yeast from any direction other than being a poison. And do not use cider vinegar. Plain white vinegar is best. The yoghurt provides little bugs that eat the yeast. Much more effective.

I used to have a lot of problems with UTI's as a child, up to a point I wasn't allowed to have any more penicillin and was about the same weight as my 3 years younger sister...
Vitamin C What really helped by back then; eating lots and lots of vitamin C. Together with lots and lots of water. Supplements up to 1000 mg. Your body will get rid off all the excessive vitamin C. This is supposed to raise the acidity levels to such extremes in your bladder that it kills all bacteria. You should keep the high doses about a week after all complaints have passed. Vitamin C is usually harmless, but could become harmful to your kidneys, whenever keeping up with such high doses for too long. This is one of the reasons why you really need to drink all the water. The other is too keep your bladder flushed and rinsed to clear it out asap And remember: UTI's gone wild will attack your kidneys, so at a certain moment; it's about making the better choice (together with your doc!). Just like you would with any type of medication and it's side-effects. And vitamin C is rather mild on side-effects.Baking Soda Another way that is very effective is baking soda. Mix with warm water. And keep drinking it throughout the day AMAP. This will have a reversed effect; the aciditylevels in your bladder become basic, which also makes a negative environment for bacteria. And the (very) good part: it makes peeing be less hurting! It soothes Side-effect: it does influence your stomach (also used to fight nausea) and could influence your stool as well; sometimes for good, sometimes for worse...Consult your doc! I've fought off UTI's through the years using these methods, so please discuss this with your doc ![]() I usually start right a way, once I suspect UTI. Since it's harmless and cause it's way easier to fight it in the early stages. But I have a history and agreed with my doc on this. Next morning I visit the doc's assistant. Cause whatever you do: - Get your urine checked at the doctor's to make sure you have an UTI. (You don't want to fight ghosts ) - Consult your doctor on your physics considering baking soda/vitamin C. (Perhaps your physics do not allow this treatment) - And have your doctor check your urine after to see if it's really gone.
