I can't get an exam, it seems. I'm 17, sexually active, *and* I've been having abdominal pains, and I can't get an exam. 'Cause I'm not 25. When an attempt at an appointment booking was made.. they said no. I went and saw a nurse, she pressed my stomach for abnormalities and listened to it, found nothing and sent me on my way. I have to go back 'cause she said she'd put me on the pill. But no exam for just over 7 years? Uhm.. is this normal?

Beckeh,
That is neither normal nor appropriate. All women should have pelvic exams before becoming sexually active. When symptoms are presenting, the exam should be done. In the UK, a seventeen year old woman can have an abortion on demand. You should certainly receive treatment as needed. Call again and get treatment.

![]() I guess I'll be calling them back and saying my pain disagrees with their diagnosis. I mean geesh, I'm 18 in just under a month and it's bad enough that I couldn't get one before being sexually active, nevermind now =/ Thanks Brandye. |

It's up to you to seek medical treatment, doctors aren't going to come to your door to drag you to hospital. Are you even registered with an obgyn? Your doctor during your pregnancy would have had different objectives and probably wouldn't have seen it as being his place to deal with your issue if it wasn't going to impact on the pregnancy. |

i would let the doctor get on with it if it simply didnt hurt so much, i would rather repeatedly use a hammer to my toes than go thr that, as for ending the exam nope they continue but the pain makes me get hold of them and pull the thing out, as for being registered with a gyn, you know very well what its like here in the uk, you dont see a gyn til youve got past the receptionist then the gp and then waited what could be the next 12 months
