lady, how did you even get on depo provera without an exam?
anyways, my first exam wasn't necessarily that bad, just uncomfortable in that postition. but i had to go back to have a biopsy because my papsmear was abnormal. the pain was horrible having that done. i consider myself to have a fairly high tolerence for pain, but that literally put me in tears. (not like sobbing, but just a natural response to pain where your eyes well up with tears). that was such a bad experience that would almost deter me from ever returning for another exam. although i know for my own health that i will go back, but i think my anxiety on going back will be higher than my first time, just for the fear that she will say i need another biopsy. |

Brandye,
After our discussion about the importance of exams on the main board, I was wondering if it would be possible to "Sticky" this thread in Chick Chat? Again, I think awareness about the importance of the first pelvic exam is very important, and apparently many young women around here are having sex and starting birth control even without having an exam.

i have an appt. with my regular doctor in two weeks to talk and to get the pill. i told my mom i was a little nervous and when she asked why? i said because i've never had a pelvic exam done!! duh!
and she said that i wasn't getting one. im kind of confused.. how do you get the pill with no pelvic exam? i just think that's weird.

I mis-read your post. Your GP will not do a PAP, pelvic, and prescribe BCP'S unless they have a doc/PA/NP who specializes in GYN issues. Therefore, the GP will send you to see a GYN. Explain this issue to the GP--they will refer you for excessive bleeding, cramping, or recommend a gyn check up for a base-line exam. Where I am we only fill in for those who missed their gyn appointment but have been on a pill already--usually for a month or so.
Sorry...I mis-read!
