Brandye is a physician working at a National Health Service clinic in a rather isolated part of Scotland. She was raised in the Hebrides with a Scottish father and German mother.

Her schooling through secondary level was part in Germany and part in Scotland; university in England; medical school in Germany and post-doc work in Canada.

Although not a gynecologist, she is the only woman physician in the region and is favored by younger women and mothers taking their daughters for the “first exam.” Her exams and discussions have become famous in the western Highlands where she is a frequent speaker on women and sexuality.

She is bisexual and has lived for extended periods with both men and women – at different times. Her partner is her oldest friend, a divorced mother of a teenager, a nurse-midwife and also bisexual.

I would like to know how hard it was for her to become a doctor and also how long it took her. Where abouts did she go in Canda?

Brandye is a jewel in the rough
I went to school in both Germany and Scotland; university in England and med school in Germany. three years plus internship. Two years in Canada with about half in Montreal at McGill University and the rest of that program in the field - mostly Labrador and Newfoundland.

Not too hard - about the same as it would be for any woman and in Europe, more than half the med students are women. My dual citizenship and grandparents on faculty made the application process easier.

McGill? Niice, quite the prestigious school.

How did you like schooling in Newfoundland?
With the prices of foodstuffs 'cause of the method of import there, my friend buys packs of soda and foodstuffs when he's back on the mainland.

The "schooling" was practicing rural medicine in the hinterland. Two of us in an ancient Jeep Cherokee visiting villages and making do with what we had. Betwenn the two of us we could speak five languages - none of which were applicable in some cases. But there were always villagers to help. Great people.

What languages can you speak?
Haha. Had a bit of trouble understanding newfie?
I grew up in a rural area. Beyond the lack of things to do, it's a good feeling to have a sense of community, and who knows, I might raise a family in one.
