dlb has a spectacular aura about
New Premature Ejaculation Treatment

Yes, there is a pill for the treatment premature ejaculation! It is called Priligy and was developed by Janssen-Cilag and the active pharmaceutical ingredient is dapoxetine hydrochloride. It has been approved for use in several European countries and seems to be awaiting approval in the USA by the FDA.
Premature ejaculation is the most common sexual dysfunction in men. It has been suggested that this product is appealing not only for men who have an ejaculatory dysfunction, but also for men with ejaculations within the "normal" time frame who wish to prolong the pleasure.

I leave the following articles for your consideration.

Thanks, dlb, for an informational post. Naturally this response will be from my background. The first link you posted really reads like a gentle put-down of Priligy and an advert for a long list of products, some of questionable value, currently on the market.

Yes, I am aware that some of my colleagues have used low level regimens of anti-depressants, as needed, to help men with premature ejaculation. I have no experience with this. A few things make me wonder. First, anti-depressants are nothing to play with. In many cases, and in therapeutic doses for depression, they can turn premature ejaculation into erectile dysfunction. Second, most of these drugs require a slow build up to therapeutic levels and, more importantly, should be reduced gradually. In other words, a slow build-up in their administration and never go cold turkey at the end of the regimen. A doctor needs to guide one through these phases to prevent some serious potential problems. This suggests that habitual use could present some problems. Third, the results in various countries' agencies authorizing drugs is spotty. Some see some good but more have found the risks outweigh the benefits. Hence, the quite long delay in many countries in approving the drugs. And, the fourth, is that once this word is out, there will be many charlatans on the net and where you live who will have counterfeit product available. These drugs must always be treated with extreme care; you never know what you are getting. Priligy is not legally available in any of three countries where I hold a license.

The links you provide say much of this same. Proceed with caution.

Brandye, Thanks for the physician's viewpoint. I agree with you. I don't think that Priligy, Viagra and any other pharmaceutical treatment for sexual dysfunction should be considered a first line treatment. I think they should be employed when other treatments fail. But then neither you nor I suffer these dysfunctions. I must say, however, that as a younger man I was very concerned about how long I might last and can understand the importance of the existence of such a treatment to some men; not the fellow who climaxes within less than a minute once in a while (me after a long tour for instance), but the man or couple who feels that their sex life is adversely affected by his inability to hold off.

As to your statement about the need for a slow buildup for SSRIs to work the third article I list states " The short half-life means that the males could probably take this medication when required instead of relatively building up the typical level in the body like that of the traditional SSRIs due to the short half-life it does not gather in the system and source other side effects like loss of libido. It can be taken 1–3 hours before sexual intercourse is anticipated, rather than every day."

Of course we know about the dangers of drugs that tamper with seratonin levels; I remember the phen-fen ( or whatever it was called) diet craze of the 1990s.

I am neither pro nor con at this point. I believe there are still data to be retrieved.

Have a great weekend

Go "Green".

A pill or potion to help reduce or eliminate the tendency men have for climaxing before they choose to sounds like a great idea; however, why spend the money when you and your partner can learn to use:

A.) the Squeeze technique (available where ever and when ever it is required.)
B.) mastering the exercise that can be fun to learn and rewarding to use.

Squeeze & Training Exercise for Controlling Premature Ejaculation

What really bothers me about the medication is that it may seem to provide a person with an easy albeit costly fix, there is a price to pay. The two methods, above, are free, and, there are no side affects. A pill does not give a man mastery over his own destiny.

Go Green!
