Problem getting and staying hard

I was fooling around with my new boyfriend for the first time and i noticed that even though he was excited, he wasnt very hard. I gave him hand/head jobs and he got kind of hard. We were going go have sex after that but by the timehe went to get the condom he was soft again :s and after that no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get him hard again.. I told him not to worry and let him know i wasnt there to judge and he wasnt sure why he couldnt get hadr either but he thought his dad calling while we were fooling around might be the cause..
If anyone knows what might be wrong or knows how i might be able to help him i would be truely greatful!!

He is almost 17, smokes and drinks once a week, plays tennis, has no illnesses and i know this has happened to him with other girls

1. Why was the condom not readily available? That is dumb to not have it (or, better, them) right beside you along with your vaginal spermicide.

2. Yes, smoking and drinking can become a problem but at 17 he was just nervous; first time with a new girl anxiety.
