Can't Sleep After Sex

Hey everyone,

This seems to be a new problem, but lately, after having sex with my SO, I cannot go to sleep. I just become so restless and toss and turn in bed for hours until I finally get up (like now). It's odd because for 3 years, this was never a problem.

I thought sex was supposed to make you sleepy! What gives??

Brandye is a jewel in the rough
I assume that you are male. It is the male of the species who gets a shot of dopamine and drifts off while we women want to cuddle. Look at what you are eating/drinking reading/watching before bedtime. Are you stressed out? How is work going?

Something is bugging you to the point that a pwerful hormone generated in your brain is being over come.

Now, if you are female, something is missing in your sex life.

I have sex in the morning to wake up. Having sex doesn't mean you are supposed to role over afterwards and fall asleep. Sometimes I sleep after sex at night, sometimes I feel wide awake like you do. Don't worry about. Maybe you should continue having sex until you can't go on any more. Maybe then you will sleep.

Avoid stimulants before bed, if sleep is what you want to do in bed. Also clear your mind of whatever goes on during your daytime life, unless it's sex
That cuddling that Brandye mentioned, will help put you to sleep too.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I am male.

I'm not stressed, I avoid stimulants so I got worried. I went to the doctor, and they seem to think it has to do with my less than stellar sleep habits (goto bed at 4am on weekends, then attempt to go to sleep at 12 on Sunday night).

I thought it was strange because it only started recently, and only after sex. What do you guys and girls do to calm down if you can't sleep (haha and please don't tell me sex )

...then try regulating your sleep habits. Going to bed at all times of the day or night is not good. Your internal time clock gets all screwed up.

Yeah I find that I fall asleep much easier after sex. The only time I have problems with sleeping is if I am expecting sex and it doesn't happen.
