A rapid perusal reveals the old stereotype that women represent the "supply" and men represent the "demand." Even with the introduction of contraception, the author refers to the women supplying and the men demanding.

Otherwise a standard chapter from Econ 101 that could be describing anything. Not even particularly funny.

My (male) accountant states it better: "The trouble with the UK is that women control 53% of the wealth and 100% of the pussy." He points this out to tell me I am a big part of the "trouble" as he presents me with a bill for a few quid each year. My guess is that he is hinting for a bit of each that I control.
