My boyfriend and I recently purchased a swing to do something new, only we're having a hard time finding good positions....any suggestions?

Well, there's only the one really; him standing still using the swing to move you back and forth onto him and you sitting there doing nothing.

It is the lack of movement within the swing that I find irritating - the space is far too confining for my sort of 'activity' which resembles "tigers on vaseline" more than anything else.
