MANILA (AFP) – A new sex education campaign in Philippine schools has sparked widespread debate in Asia's bedrock of Catholicism, where the high birth rate is blamed for desperate poverty.

Oh brother! When is the Catholic Church ever going to wake up?? I agree that the high birth rate is to be blamed for the desperate poverty in the Philippines. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for religious freedom but when that religious freedom brings harm to people, it is wrong in my opinion.

Many are all for religious freedom, but not for freedom from religion.
It's not only a problem for christians, by the way.

Actually, yes "Freedom of religion" does imply "Freedom from religion".

Remember we don't all HAVE to be Roman Catholic or Methodist, Islamic, Buddhist or whichever.

In the absence of obligation to be any particular religion we therefore have the right to be of NO religion and thus freedom from religion. Keep your beliefs to yourself, thank you, and I'll do the same for you.

All cultures are scared of teenage girls (and women) being promiscuous since they associate that with several 'bad things' like increased stds, babies, infidelity and trauma. But worse than that is their fear of unbridled feminine sexual power and prowess for that would undermine cultural masculine superiority. Once a girl starts questioning why she has to be chaste, she's bound to start questioning other fundamental societal lies. Not all societies are self-confident enough to handle that.
