It's most likely just because you have allot more lubrication when on your period so fingers and penisis can slide in quite easily also making it more pleasurable, or she could have been a little more comfortable with the situation this time so relaxed vaginal wall muscles, also making it easier, hope that helps!
I think that my opening does get looser when I'm having my period. I can slide in a tampon very easily, but also because of the added lubrication.
One more thing...why were other people in the room when you fingered her first? That could add to why she was tight...nerves.
