A question of Periods

sorry if this needs to go some where else but i guess it could help here.

what does a Period feel like? Being a guy i will never know what it feels like. i can only guess. So what is it like? Maybe it will help me get more in tough of my female side

Walk-ins are welcome, curious, but it's better to make a reservation in order to guarantee vacancy. I only have one bed...
I don't mind sharing with another woman as well. ;) :p

I know, sera - my place (when I have one) seems to be very popular with the ladies that are "between apartments". I think they might just be getting evicted on purpose...

Well I am one of the lucky ones in that my period comes and the only real sign it's here is that I'm bleeding, lol. I don't really cramp or have mood swings.
I just notice that my lower back hurts somewhat and certain things seems to "irk" me more than usual. I'll sometimes have a dull ache in my lower ab area also for maybe the first day.

I've had friends though that have debilitating cramps. The only thing I can compare it to is maybe when you've eaten bad food or something and you get diarrhea and you are just cramping in two.

I am one of those who gets cramps.. I think I would compare mine to getting kicked in the crouch. The way some of my male friends have described the feeling they get seems to parallel with the pain I feel when I'm cramping. I get irritated easier, oh and I get major headaches! I don't really know what else to say, what do you actually want to know?

I don't know if it would be the same, true periods last longer, but getting hit in the junk is like jamming your hand in a door. Wave after wave of pain and moving any which way hurts, thinking of moving any which way hurts. All you wanna do is ball up on the floor and sob....then when you're mind is slowly returning.....you look for something heavy to hit the son of a b**** who kicked ya. :D

I get very bad periods, so painful I can't stand up. It feels like someone stabbed a barbed knife into my gut, and when I move its like its being ripped through my lower abdomen...And my back...ugh feels like someone smashed it with a baseball bat. I also get headaches so intense my vision gets fuzzy. So I'm kinda at the extreme end of the spectrum. ;)

The whole just balling up on the floor is exactly what I feel like doing and do. Sometimes I'll just lay down and put myself in a ball holding my lower abdomen. And sometimes cramps FOR ME are a "wave of pain", continous, dreadful, horrible, intense amounts of pain, one after another, and just when I think its gone, well I'm back in my ball. I LOVE MIDOL!

I used to get REALLY bad cramps...for like a few days before I got my period, and for the first few days.
Since being on birth control it has helped immensely...but

I basically have low back pain, and abdomen pain. Deep...like a toothache I guess. I get really tired, and cold. A little moody, extra emotiona...I've cried at commercials. I have had cramps bad enough to the point I cry and want to crawl up in a ball and have. Even busted out the heating pad on numerous occassions. Not so much anymore though.

And then WHILE you are having your period. It's gross... I mean I'm used to it now. But its just an added nuisance, and an odd sensation. Like, you need to have pads or tampons with you. Change them constantly. Sometimes you might have a little accident or leakage. I know this is gross...but sometimes after you've been sitting for a while and stand up, and walk around you FEEL stuff coming out down there. Sorry if thats TMI but you asked...hahaha

So basically just imagine blood constantly coming out of your penis for 3-5+ days...and just think about how you'd feel, if you want to relate to what girls feel...Give 'em some sympathy!!! :D

Fatigue, I am cold, and get waves of cramps...not much fun when you feel like your insides are being pulled out! Motrin (800 mgs) works for me! But ever woman is very different. BCP's help decrease ecessive symptoms but also have trade offs.

LoL Sugar
Yeah I hate that "ooze" feeling too!!!

Oh the joys of being a woman!

Oh and I cry at my soaps too...and commercials..bah~

so are they generaly the same, as in how they feel but a littel different for every girl?

yes, every woman is different. that's why there are so many different kinds of pads and tampons!

i'm one of the lucky ones who gets debilitating pain every two weeks instead of every four. i have something called mittelschmerz, which is basically intensely painful ovulation. it wakes me up in the middle of the night in tears and i've been hospitalized for it with tubes comin out my arms. aiy, does anyone else have this affliction? cause it suuuucks.

if you've had appendicitis then that is exactly what it feels like, apparently. my doctor was convinced that was what was happening at first but an ultrasound cleared that up.

sera, my doctor presrcibed me 800 mg. of motrin for this, and it works wonders for both mittelschmerz and cramping.
so are they generaly the same, as in how they feel but a littel different for every girl?
No the length can go from 4-8 days. Some have heavier days and bleed like a stuffed pig, some have barely any bleeding or cramping. Then there is PMS; the irritability about 3 days prior to the onset. Years back when I had a regular period, day number 2; I would not go out of the house. Some women have food cravings during the PMS time, some have no PMS signs. I would get so cold and have cramps with a severe backache usually around day two with large clotting, and I felt as if someone was doing a ripping of my uterus out (I have had many surgery's so I have a good pain thresh hold). I could actually see a change in my lab work as well. Due to recurrent ovarian cysts, the bleeding & change in lab values; I was put on Depo Provera Injections. They helped a great deal. Many other women barely notice their period. Exercise (although unwanted when you hurt) helps reduce the discomfort. I would even see mood changes during the first few days...I was a nasty B++++!!!!! Around day 14 of the month---I would be really horny, could not get enough! Other women have no symptoms much like Demon said!

Good old hormones! Hope this helps you.

I used to have one GF who had incredibly bad periods - not so much mood swings as psychopathic episodes, to which I had to once go to hospital for when she stuck a fork in my hand. The relationship didn't last much longer.

That being said, I don't think any man can ever really understand how painful a period is, just as no woman can ever understand how painful a kick to the todger is.

The difference is, men don't find periods funny.

Wow thats crazy!! Are you sure there wasn't something else wrong with her?? I think thats a little over the top!
Wow thats crazy!! Are you sure there wasn't something else wrong with her?? I think thats a little over the top!
Yeah, really over the top PMS! I'd run far from that; psycho episodes! I we can get a bit nasty & short, crying over silly stuff but that's even rare. More Nasty is common...stabbing? not really a good trait!

It's like saying
"I robbed a bank and shot five of my hostages, but it's okay because I was on my period"
It's like saying
"I robbed a bank and shot five of my hostages, but it's okay because I was on my period"
Maybe that is a legitimate legal argument, I am sure some attorney has tried it as a defense LOL! Whats the world coming to? Psychopaths all over!

Yeah, turned out she was on medication for her psychopathic episodes, which she had neglected to tell me. I was out of there as fast as I could.

My girlfriend actually has a terrible first day...cramps that basically leave her bed ridden. But her biggest thing is before. For about a week she gets back pains, EXTREMEMLY hungry, very tired (like 14 hours of sleep a night) and she gets very sarcastic (like funny...but its the tear down kind of humor which sorta sucks)

Hey those are the same problems I have, except the backaches!!

Sera,

Do you think if some girl used that excuse on a male judge and a jury consisting of mainly males, she would get away with it? I know most men are squeemish about the whole period thing. One of my teachers doesn't let anyone go to the restroom but I'll say "Don't make me get explicit with you", all he says is please don't and signs my pass right away.

Plastic,

How long were you with her for?

If the jury was filled with dominant men? Prob. not! Once on my way to the store, got pulled over for well speeding, told the male cop why I had to get there...no sympathy! BUT He said it was a good attempt at an excuse, so he let me go. Ask another man? They don't want to hear it! Such as my brother is so nosy..."I saw you in the store what were you buying?" All I have to say is "Feminine hygiene products" and she shuts up fast! LOL! Does he have any sympathy when I was doubled over? No, next question from his mouth is "do you mind watching the kids"? I could kick him in the leg!

All in all, I really don't think men understand that some women have a tough time! I want to ask, "If I kicked you in the groin do you think that might hurt a bit?" Especially if he had the feeling for a few days in waves! Then take enough Advil so you also have a really upset stomach!

It's hilarious when you tell men who have want nothing to do with periods! I have some guy friends who are so nosy and will dig into my purse just for fun... then they come in contact with a tampon.. they start shrieking like little girls and going EW! Ahh.. if only they knew what we have to go through!! Some girls are so lucky, the only way they know they're on their period is because their vagina is bleeding!

Approximately one month. Guess why.

As for the men-not-liking-to-talk-about-menstruation, it's quite simple.

We like women's bodies. Particularly the vagina. So when it starts bleeding we get really squeamish.

Plus, women tend to get (understandably, what with hormonal shifts and jesus-christ-blood-is-coming-out-of-my-vagina) reeeeeally bitchy around period time.

Instant association there - men are simple creatures, and so when someone says "Period" or "That time of the month" or "I've had the painters in" we instinctively wince, look for the nearest exit, pray to the local deity, rewrite their last will and testament and shut down blood flow to the extremities in preparation for a long, cold winter.

Haha I think the best description...why dont men like periods...Because its simple

Men dont trust things that bleed for 7 days straight and live:D

I don't see periods as anything to be squeamish or freak out about. It's just a natural body function...

I always made it a point to keep some tampons in my bathroom just in case one of my overnight guests were to need one. Same goes for lady's body wash, shampoo, deodorant, those spongy cloth-ball things, and pretty much everything else. What can I say - I've always been a very good host...

And I don't get why guys would be embarrassed to buy tampons, either. It's not like THEY'RE using them.

Hahah yea I got over that whole buying tampons thing pretty quick. I dont know when I throw out the trash at my house its kinda nasty throwing away all kinds of pads and stuff that my mom and sister use....for my girlfriend its like whatever I mean I know about it and dont really care...for friends I dont care but I wouldnt want to have them walk up and say hey im on my period lol

I think being a good host is one of the most important, and often overlooked, aspects of dating. It's sort of like running a hotel - The more comfortable you make your guest, the more likely they are to come back! Hmmm, maybe I should make a thread about this... I think it's something that every guy (and girl) should try to do.
