Question concerning periods

I've been watching these forums for a long time now, but never really registered or acted in them. However, things are pretty bad when it comes to that 'time of the month', and I really need suggestions.
I've talked to my mom about this a lot, and she's not much help. I'm fifteen, and I get very heavy periods. I have to change a super tampon every two hours or so, and cramping gets to the point where I can't even get up, and I just lay and cry. I'm not unhealthy; I eat healthy food, lots of fruit and veggies, I exercise often, and I'm just in general not understanding why I get in so much pain.
So I guess I'm asking more or less what I could do, such as, if any of you know of any birth control pills that lighten cramping/flows, or any other advice. During periods I'm practically married to my Midol bottle, but they really aren't that effective for me, because no pills really help me. Help?

Ouch ... sounds familiar.

Yes, I had all that once, but I've found a lot of natural ways to make it bearable.

Raspberry tea will be your friend. It works for all women problems, including cramps. I try to drink 3 cups a day while on my period.

If that doesn't work, a hot water bottle on the area of the cramps will help immensily. You may have to warm it up a few times before it calms your cramps.

I also found that Advil worked a lot better for me than Midol ever did. You might want to try some.

Hope it helps.

i've known several women who's periods were as bad as yours. they were perscribed birth control pills, but not with the intent of using them as birth control (although they still work that way). birth control pills have the added benefit of controling your period. mine used to be rather irregular. not "bad" like yours, but just odd. my cycle was 30-32 days long, i could never map out exactly when it would start, i had some bad cramps, but definately not as bad as they could have been, and it was long, the first two days were really heavy, like i would often soak through a super nightime pad while i slept (never wore tampons to bed) and stained my sheets. then the last 5 days (long!) it trickled off to almost nothing.

once i started on the pill, my cycle is now 28 days exactly, i know exactly what day it will start on, it only lasts 4 days, and its much lighter and even the whole 4 days. i have almost no cramping, or mood swings.

you might want to talk about it with a doctor, and some other members around here might have some other advice, but the pill is an option, and just because someone is on the pill, doesn't always mean they're having sex.

as for what type of pill you should use, i am on ortho try-cyclen lo and am very happy with it. you may want to talk with your doctor to see which pill or method is best for you.

Thank you both of you, I'll try what you've recommended. Yeah, it's definitely frustrating, and I'm definitely looking into the pill, not only to help with this but also to regulate. Sometimes, it'll be a long time until I get my period, and other times it's only after about two weeks I'll get it again. And I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I get about one day of absolutely no bleeding, so I think it's done, but it comes back. Pretty odd. But thank you!

depending on how long ago your period started for the first time, its normal for it to be pretty irregular and weird for a year or two, but in most people it will even out for the most part. if its been a few years, and its still so irregular, then its not normal. make sure your doctor examines you to make sure there's nothing medically wrong with you to cause such irregularity, and if there's nothing going on there, then the pill should help.

The pill will lighten the flow considerably and ease most of the pain and cramps and it makes it very predictiable

You are not in this by yourself. Many patients I see are for this very problem. There is no need to suffer but see your doctor and explain symptoms in detail. The pill is one commonly used treatment but thee are alternatives and you and your doctor can sort that out.

My girlfriend had the same problem, so she started taking the pill & it made her periods much lighter & she didnt get cramps at all. Go for it.
