Puberty age and fertility

So I was talking to my friend and I guess she started her period in 4th grade. Granted it was extremely random, and usually would skip at least two months out of a year.

But then she said that it meant that she would be fertile longer. Like it would take longer to hit menopause. Is that true?

I mean obviously someone starting at 9 will be fertile longer than someone who starts at 11 (albeit by 2 years). But does this affect the age at which they hit menopause or anything?

No...........

Sera whats with all the dots? lol....dumb question right :D

The way I always understood it. a woman has a limited number of eggs. Wouldn't it actually mean that the earlier a girl starts ovulating the sooner she becomes sterile? I don't know - been a long time since I took Sex Ed, and ovulation was just about the last thing on my mind at the time. Didn't really pay attention...

Thats what I had thought Oed but this girls mom is a doc and supposedly thats what they said so idk
Thats what I had thought Oed but this girls mom is a doc and supposedly thats what they said so idk
Apparently every woman has a "fixed" amount of eggs & as the egg matures you have ovulation. There are many eggs well enough to take women into menopause and then some. I highly doubt despite the age of onset of menses, they will "run out".

Now, if your body begins menopause or POV earlier...that's a whole different story. Did you ever hear of menopausal women becoming "accidentally" pregnant? The issue is the eggs are too old; therefore, resulting in forms of retardation at birth of the child---Downs syndrome. I have POV...I can accidentally ovulate but because of my age and my FSH & LH are so high...there must be an immediate termination of the pregnancy--again assuming it would ever happen.

A woman should assume that she is fertile (fecund) when she first begins to menstruate. The age at onset has no effect on the age of menopause. Each woman is born with about a thousand egges. As these mature, they are the monthly ovulation. When a woman is 20, more than 90% of her eggs are healthy; by 40, many fewer are still healthy.

Menopause is not caused by the eggs but is caused by hormones changing as a result of aging. So, the original question of being fertile longer is ture because of the early start but that still says nothing about the end of fertility.

Ducy:

Have you ever considered becoming a sex ed teacher??? Not in person but in school?

What makes you ask that? IDK. I mean I do like educating people on safe sex. I mean my friends always come to me for advice and stuff...

Ehh...IDK...I mean it would be nice knowing I am helping people learn about things that most parents make taboo....but I think I would rather be an RN...or perhaps a marraige/relationship counselor.

Sounds interesting...I told my doc I was torn between a doc and a nurse cuz I love medicine but the hours of a doc would be bad if I wanted to have a family...she told me I should be a NP since I would get to do things like a doc but with less hours and such....

That the same as a PA?

That the same as a PA?
PA is 4 years of College...NP must have a Masters & then a NP licence...lots of time. Figure minimum of 4 years of RN, then a MSN, then courses for NP & clinical hours. PA? 4 years; 2 can be done at a community college...the transfer to PA school. Still have the clinical rotation hours...Plus...NO CALL!

Really? hmm...schooling wise sounds pretty good...pardon my lack of knowledge, but no call means Im done with my day and dont need to worry bout getting paged in the middle of a date....and the rotation means I still get to work with med....just not as much?

And you work directly in medicine...clinical rotations are while in school....

Why not reach for the brass ring? Each thing mentioned plays a very important role in delivering health care. Which calls the shots?
