It is not absolutely not necessary to take the entire penis into the mouth.
Better me thinks to let the lips and tongue tantalize the head and corona while you use your hand(s) on the shaft in what I refer to in other posts as the "Dynamic Duo". Give this a try and see how he likes what you do.
