Ok this is going to sound really stupid and klutzy on my part but here goes...
Friday night my hubby and I got a little frisky. I always keep a thick blanket under us that has a garbage bag liner in there somewhere so noone has to sleep in the wetspot, I am a gusher so it helps. Anyway, I tossed it aside when we were done. I eventually got up to use the washroom and when I came back to bed, it was dark and I got my foot caught in the blanket I left on the floor, trying to untangle my foot, I tripped forward and smashed the left side of my pubic mound into the corner of my night stand.
It throbbed a little at first nothing too bad, I fell asleep quickly. The next day I took a look and the left side was/is black and blue! It did not hurt though just looked horrible. Anyway, everything was fine until yesterday, I was going to have my evening bath and noticed it had swelled, there is a large, hard bump.
Today, I woke up and it is throbbing horribly, even into my thigh, although there is no bruising there. I am fine when lying sown, but anything else...forget it.
I am wondering what the heck that horrible hard bump is and if anyone with some knowledge may have some idea. I have had ice on it, but it's not lessening the swelling. I hope I will not have this ugly bump forever!
Also why would it only start aching 4 days later???

You may have ruptures some vessels. You caught it on the corner of the night stand. You have a contusion w/ecchymosis. Fancy words for a bump & bruise, it will heal. Just be certain you do not develop pain in the leg on the same side, and if it's very swollen, just feel the pulse in the groin where your upper-inner thigh meets the vulva--feel the unaffected side to find it then feel the exact spot/region on the other side. Throbs? Because you cannot exactly elevate the area on a regular basis. Ice for the first 24 hours (you have already missed the time frames to do this since it's 4 days old)every 3-4 hours for no longer then 20 minutes, then switch to heat there on in. Do not leave it on longer then 15-20 minutes (every 3-4 hours) b/c it reverses the effects of the heat and does the opposite, causing pain in the long run. Advil or Tylenol (if not allergic) as directed on the bottle to relieve the discomfort.
If it doesn't clear up, you might want to seek medical help. Perhaps there has been some bleeding into the tissue, and a pool of blood has collected, resulting in the hard bump. I'm not a medical person, but I think they call that a haemotoma.
Cycle you are correct hematomas. Which it is is tough but if the symptoms do not improve over time, should see a doc. A hematoma is fine, no biggie since the blood reabsorbs with time, but if the pain is worse or if it's really large then see the doc. If it begins to become red, hot to touch , or swollen see the doc ASAP.
Tough to tell over the Internet! Whenever in doubt seek a professional...:eek:
Thanks Sera;
I did the hot/cold thing lastnight and it seemed to relieve the pain, it doesn't hurt today. The bruising seems to be reducing but the bump is still there. It is a little tender to the touch, but tons better.
I will keep my eye on it for a day or two, if the bump doesn't go away I will pop in to see a doc.

No cold...cold is only for the first 24 hours post injury. The you use heat! It should resolve, if you have pain in the leg or groin as I described you need to see the doc. If you develop R/S/T--redness, swelling, AND tenderness it can be an infection...see the doc ASAP. Severe pelvic pain, when you manually rock your hips side to side with your hands...see the doc. Pretty much all else resolves on it's own & the colors will look nasty, then fade. Contusions & hematomas also vanish or re-absorb. If you had continuous deep bruising and larger surface swelling...then you need the doc. Don't feel foolish...I can tell you stories form the ER & then those from personal experience. It's so enticing when you are stripping for your honey, and accidentally slip & fall on the floor!!!! LOL!
It sounds like things are improving fairly quickly, so its probably not a major problem.
