PMS

Hi everyone. I JUST joined.

I was wondering how "seriously" you men take us when we don't act normal due to a bad bout of PMS....

My boyfriend and I have been together for about 4 months and he's NEVER known when it was PMS week for me because I never acted differently. But this week is a whole other story. I had some other stress early in the week that left me very grumpy - so I stayed to myself and it didn't affect him at all. But yesterday and today I've been emotional and getting my feelings hurt so easily by him. I know he means NOTHING by anything and he's not acting any different than usual, but it's affecting me. So in turn I've been different towards him. He said I was "worrying" him until I told him I was PMSing and just all over the place. Then I think he understood. My feelings were hurt that it's the holiday weekend and he's going partying with the guys to the lake and leaving me behind. Granted I don't mind his having a guy outing - they all need them! - but I'm just taking it personally this week and I told him that. I KNOW how it is on the lake where we usually park and everyone parties - girls drinking to much and flashing everyone etc. He's gone out with the guys before and I didn't care but this week it's making me nuts and it hurts.

Tonight he was teasing me via text message on the cell phone on his way home from work and I took that wrong too. So he pointed out I must be having another pms moment.

Ok, I'm rambling and I'm sorry. But now I just find myself beating myself up for being emotional and stupid and hoping he doesn't think I'm a freak or anything. Guys, how seriously do you take us when our emotions are out of control?

Thanks....I'm just feeling like an idiot.

I hate to say "it depends," but...

it depends.

Quite honestly, I don't take PMS too seriously... it too often seems like an excuse for being crabby, moody, etc. with an almost "I can't help myself" attitude - like it's some disease that takes over women's bodies and totally controls them for a few days every month.

If a person (man or woman!) will accept SOME responsibility for their emotional state, I think I'm sensitive and capable of making some adjustments in my behavior and language.

And I think behavior is a key aspect. I can, to some degree, understand that you might feel differently about me going out with the boys (or whatever) at a certain point in time. What gets difficult is when you suddenly do a 180, decide I can't. (Not saying that you do this, describing it this way to make the point.) If it was okay before, why should it change just because you're "in a mood?" That's when you'll hear the comments like "You're just PMSing."

Like just about everything in relationships, this is about working together to deal with the things that affect you individually and together.

don't feel bad.
im like you, i really don't act much bitchier or different when im PMSing.
i do feel more inclined to cry at my soaps lol.

i just hate when guys assume that if you have a snappy remark or something you are PMSing...even if it is them who are acting like assholes..get what im saying?

hopefully next time you won't have the added stress. just let him know you don't like being teased and made fun of for having PMS.
