The plain K-Y, which you hate, and Surgilube, essentially identical, are the most economical. Plus, no one has a reaction to them and they do not harm latex. With latex condoms, you should avoid mineral oil (baby oil) or vegetable oils. Use one of the many non-latex condoms and you can lube with whatever you want. Nothing from the kitchen, bath or garage will attack them. I like safflower oil for massages and it sometimes ends up being a lubricant.
