Playboy Empire

In today's news, Hugh Hefner's daughter, Christie, stepped down as chief executive after years of near-constant losses and steadily dwindling revenue. The magazine was launched in 1953 and nowadays its biggest competitor is the Internet.

All the best, Hugh, and the best of luck.

I join you Doc in wishing Hef the best. There used to be a joke about Playboy Magazine: Oh yes I buy Playboy, mainly to read the articles. Back in my late teens and throughout my twenties I actually did read the articles and I learned quite a bit about style, popular culture, politics, cooking, mixology and entertaining. I also learned quite a bit about sex and being a better lover.
Hopefully Hef can hang on to his empire. I think he needs to get more with the times though. As you point out Doc Playboy's largest competitor is the internet.

As a bit of nostalgia, perhaps but frankly, Playboy's day is done.

I still have a subscription to Playboy, and while there are portions of the magazine that have seriously gone downhill, there are pieces and pictorials that are still well worth it. The interviews tend to be interesting and insightful, and they have some great contributors. I'm not a fan of the format of the facts page, but I almost always enjoy the advisor.

Thank you so much for the post. It's really informative!
