I have written many times, unfortunatly about UTIs I am apparently very susceptible to. I have had 3-4 confirmed by doctors but the reality is i have had round 6 in 7 months.
I have spoken with my dr about this and we are startin an investigation next month but this has worried me as he said it could be related to when i was ill ALOT 10 years ago with my "systems" and vagina. I have to have an ultra-sound as he said it could be my liver, why? I am confused and worried something might be really wrong now.
My dr also said that he highly doubts sex is causing it but in fact it hasnt gone away in 7 or so months and that the sypmtoms disappear but the bacteria is no resistant to the antibiotics. AND that i may just have to be on anti biotics for 3 months then one month off for years!!! Again why? years?
I am relieved something is being done now as before the nurses kept saying it was trama from sex!
I relieze there is a lot of infomation and not clear questions but i just need an explaination about what maybe going on and is it the sex?? just some advice would be good i guess and reassurace consisdering there maybe something wrong with my liver... for some reason?
Thanks and i apologise for spelling mistakes i am very tired

If your doctor is assuming there is something involving your liver; I would say he/she is basing this upon your blood work. There could be one liver component which is not within normal limits, the lack of proper filtering is causing a portion to be filtered through the kidney & excreted through the bladder & urethra. There are times when hepatic functions are not within limits for many reasons, the exact reason I would not know, only your MD. This is my best guess. Your liver filters your blood of toxins and then the next pit stop is the kidneys. Waste is excreted through urine & feces.
Has your doctor done a Cystoscopy? Are you seeing a Urologist? A Cysto is when they pass a tube through the urethra with a scope and it allows the doc to view your urethra, neck of the bladder, and the bladder it's self. It's uncomfortable but gives good visualization to any inflammation or malformations.
Additionally, when a patient has chronic re-occurring infections many times instead of regular dose, regular frequency antibiotics, they opt to put you on lower dose antibiotics for extended periods of times.
Exactly what is the cause? As I said; best guess is you have an abnormal hepatic function which he/she is attributing to the chronic & re-occurring UTI's. Additionally, I would seek a second opinion & be certain you are seeing a urologist (they are not just for men).
Read the sticky (actually three posts) on It Burns and Itches in Women's Health. May give you some insight on the sources and seeming intractability of vaginitis.
my gf can be very prone to them. She takes cranberry supplementation which tends to help out alot. Could also be lube choice
Since before i have had SO many blood tests taken. Now have had 9 UTIS in 10 months. Dr's found my liver clean had an ultra sound yesterday they wanted to look at bladder and kidneys dunno the results but he says they look clean. I did say that I usually get the with sex they said that wouldnt be factor when it clearly is.
Still on going tests gr.
I did see a urologist. He thinks I may have contracted a virus without knowing which has basically wrecked my immue systems as now i have developed anemia!!! I was healthy in january then BOOM.
Though i have'nt had a Cystoscopy. I am dealing with it by going to the dr before i see my bf and get meds and that works.
The worrying thing is although he said it all looked good he kept wanting to look at my right kidney. I have to wait till they are printed to know more. They also said the test would see if it was neurological. How?
The theory about a virus upstting your auto-immune system sounds very plausible. I do not know what "test" (I assume there was a series, whether or not you were aware of that) you are referring to and, so, cannot respond to how that would identify neuro- problems.
What meds are you using pre-sex? I agree with the sex not being the cause but it could be irritating the underlying cause.
Autoimmune disorders diagnosed through are a series of labs, physical exams, and history. Pernicious anemia can cause one heck of an issue on your entire body. All sorts of viruses & auto-immune disorders can cause neurological symptoms; a whole host of bizarre symptoms even affecting the cranial nerves and the reinnervation of crossed pathways. Keep the testing going. Furthermore all medications/supplements taken (now or in the past) should be discussed with the doctor.
indeed. Hopefully after 10 months they will find out i have had 4 anemia tests so far as i am borderline and it hant changed with the meds either which is a bummer.
Saying that i get sick often is an understatement i have been in so much in uni i have had the cocksackie B virus tonsillitis and now the flu since sep!! And of course more UTI's. I am getting so annoyed now.
The tests had been prodominatley bloods (5 since august) and the ultra sound... other wise that is it and teh rest has been based on theory.
I am on a different type of iron. The other didnt make me feel any better so i am not hopeful. I also trimethprin (sp) as and when i need it/ can get it. I got so to use i guess pre-sex other wise nada...

I do not know much about the use of that antibiotic; trimethropin. It appears to be an antibiotic used in the UK to treat cystitis. Some claim it works others claim it's useless. It appears to be similar to our sulfa based meds such as Bactrim DS. Bactrim is relatively inexpensive; the worst part is using it and having a sulfa reaction later...near the end of treatment...rash, itching, & headaches.
The base cause of the anemia...you need the doc to r/o an underlying cause of the anemia; ask if you have a vitamin B-12 deficiency, foliate levels, and checking for an + or - intrinsic factor. If they come back as normal then it's plain old anemia. But if you are missing one of these components or have a positive test all the oral iron will do little good; need to change to b-12 injections and Infed. It's more of a malabsorption [of the iron] issue. These are merely questions to put down and ask the doctor if they have ever been done.
Coxsackie Virus is found here big time. Type A is the typical ones seen in small children up to a 6 months old. Type B (enterovirus) tends to lead to Pleurodynia aka Bornholm Disease--common symptoms are chest pain and shortness of breath and some lesions in adults--common in the mouth and on the hands. Regardless, a virus can be a pathway which causes immunity issues & mimic auto-immune disorders or I have read where the autoimmune disease is triggered after a bad infection...here we have Lyme's disease--a tick borne illness. There is much mystery about which came first the autoimmune disorder or the virus--I have spoke w/specialist and read nearly every scholarly articles on the subject.
Ask the doc more about the cause of the anemia if there is an underlying cause such as pernicious anemia. Find out if the labs were done. and keep going. Also pyridium works to subside some UTI symptoms--it does not treat the infection it alleviates the discomfort. Ask..
This is the best I can tell you [of what I know about this stuff]; I agree with Brandye about the plausible argument. A neuro follow-up/eval can be due to looking for underlying neuro damage caused or causing your symptoms from a virus or autoimmune disorder. Some innervation of the nerves may be causing some of your chronic bladder issues...Beyond this that what I do know...but I am not a doc!
FYI: I chose to have my tonsils removed at 21--chronic bronchitis, sinus infections and the chronic enlargement of them...upon removing them they were grossly scared and filled with all sorts of nasty "stuff". As an adult they are supposed to shrink. That ended may symptoms for me; I understand why they are left as part of a defense and the lymph system. Mine were well, disgusting and I no longer contracted bronchitis and chronic sore throats--and yes it does hurt as an adult.
Thanks will ask my dr about the typr of anemia and I have more blood in jan I will ask then how it will go what is low etc.
I was confuzed about getting tonsillitis because at the end of the day i had my tonsils removed when i was 6. Apparently a small bed can grow back if they are taken out young.... how disgusting!!!! How annoying.

I would put together a note; anemia? Type? Autoimmune disorder? Type? Why? Neurologist? What? Why? Ask lots of questions....have them on paper. Do not leave until they are answered.
Cheers will let you know when i know... at least i et a small clue here lol
