Period, Mood Swings and The Pill

I've been on the pill for a little more than a year now, and whilst it was not uncommon for me to take them at irregular times (bad me) I've never not taken them for more than a day. Due to some circumstances, I was out of pills for a while and I've started bleeding. My last period at about the 14th of this month, and started again today (the 28th).

My first question is;

When I am able to get my pills again should I start taking them straight away or should I wait until my period is over?

I often find that I am still on the tail end of my period when I have finished taking the sugar pill placebos. Again, should I start taking them when I've finished the placebos or should I wait until I've finished bleeding?

Another question,

I was put onto these pills (Microgynon 20) by my doctor because I complained of horrible mood swings. He claimed I would be fixed right up, and for a time I wasn't too bad. I have since had to renew my perscription and his advice to me was to stay on them because he didn't think I could handle (emotionally) being off them. I don't think they are helping enough, as I am still mood-swinging horribly. Would it be wise to ask my doctor for a stronger or different brand? And do you have any recomendations?

Read the sticky"Caution: Take Only as Directed." And then, take only as directed. Star on the pill about five days after your period starts. You do not begin to bleed as soon as you start the placebo because there is still hormone in your system to be flushed out. You do not wait for the last drop before beginning because the pill affects your entire cycle as a cylcle; not a day at a time.

Every woman reacts slightly differently to each pill. Discuss changing or staying pu with your prescriber.
