Period and ovulation

So i was just clicking around the site, and came across the rythm method and it says that ovulation begins at about 14 days BEFORE a girls period, but Alot of other sources that i have read says that ovulation occurs after for up to sixteen days. Now i am totally confused. Which one is it? Not that i would ever use the rythm method for contraception, i just would like to know for knowledges sake.

It can be anywhere in that range...much has to do with the length of her cycle 26-31 days. Rule I was taught was count back 14 days from the impeding period. But with anything not all is text book. Also, ovulation is one thing then there are times where she can get pregnant, a day or two before and a day or two after ovulation. But others are irregular and they ovulate whenever their body wishes.

As you said you have no plans to but do not use this method EVER unless you don't mind having a child!

The straight rhythm method is a recipe for pregnancy among those women who are not absolutely regular.

What exactly is the Rhythm Method?

Figuring out the date you ovulate and abstaining from sex b/c you rather not us birth control. Very high failure rate when done properly! Meaning for anyone here...it's your nightmare, unless you want kids.
