OTC birth control & failure rates:
1-Condoms male and female types--10%; meaning of 100 people who use them PROPERLY 10 will become pregnant.
2-Spermicide foams, jelly, or VCF's (vaginal contraceptive films about as thin as a Listerine pocket-pack)--15%; meaning of 100 women and used properly 15 will become pregnant.
3-Today Sponges, a barrier method which is impermeated with a spermicide--I believe it's about 20%; meaning of 100 women using it properly 20 will become pregnant.
**Info on withdrawal or no contraception; in case the thought crosses your mind in a hormone or weak moment. Withdrawal alone will result in 40 women becoming pregnant out of every 100--with the process being used properly.
**No contraception will result in 85 out of 100 women becoming pregnant.
**Precum contains sperm & anytime semen comes in contact with vaginal fluid there is a risk of pregnancy. If he comes on your body and you touch the semen then your vaginal fluids you can become pregnant. The same theory holds true for anal sex...dripping of some fluid is expected and can come in contact with vaginal fluid. Vaginal fluid is intended to provide a good medium for transportation of sperm to the egg with an optimal environment.
**Sperm does not die with contact to air; it can survive for a long time.
These are quick facts which you need to be aware of:
What to do or use? He uses a condom (no if ands or whats about it) Latex or Poly types. If he is near you he puts it a condom on. You use a spermicide; a contraceptive sponge (but they create foam...nasty). Or a spermicidal jelly or foam (read the directions on the amount to be applied or Vaginal Contraceptive Film and read the directions on how to place it and the time needed for it to melt (they can stick to your fingers). There are also spermicide vaginal suppositories...The amount of spermicide has to be about 150 mg for ANY spermicide method to be effective. Condoms with a spermicide on them are not enough and do not take into account the chance for rupture/tearing of them.
The failure rate if both, a condom and spermicide, are used is 3%--meaning 3 out of every 100 women will become pregnant if both are used properly.
These can be purchased at your local pharmacy, any major chains have a good selection--Walgreens CVS, etc. Or you can purchase them on-line from a reputable pharmacy. I suggest you look them up and read on-line about the brands before making your choice. And they can be sold to any person of any age. Also, consider a Planned Parenthood for guidance or a clinic. All rates are compiled from Brandyes research.
Pinklady,
During the last few days since you started posting, every question you have asked is clearly answered in many other threads and most of them in sticky's. You want the information, do a little looking around and quit expecting others to do the work for you.
Go to the local Planned Parenthood or visit their site and you will learn lots.
