So I'm kinda curious. What risks (aside from the obvious skin cancer) does nude tanning possess? I occassionaly go to a tanning salon and use the high pressure tanners. Basically it gives you a deeper tan with less harmful rays and since you need to only go once every few weeks, you decrease your risk of cancer (supposedly). Now I wonder what kind of threat this could pose to my boys. I mean could the uv rays cause damage to my testicles or is there anything that has shown complications with nude tanning? I have read articles on nude tanning but they pertain to women. I figure the skin is a little more apt to burning since it is a little less accustomed to light. But I figure there had to be some point in time where we walked around naked.

Nude Tanning

The only tan someone should be one gotten from working outside or enjoying a day outside. Be happy with your body, it is your only one. And if your body reverts back to a certain color, you should probably leave it that way.
I do nude tanning every summet, about 3 times a week. I've never had any problem down there, sometimes my nipples feel like they get a little burnt if I'm not careful. I don't know about guys though, I assume it might not be too different. Sounds like they would be sensitive though lol.
ducy i have been doing photo therapy to keep my psoriasis from coming back since it can't cured. if you don't know photo therapy is basically a hospital grade tanning bed to treat this condition. along with tanning goggles i have to wear a jock strap every time or i can't do the treatment. it is not required for women to have any protection down there. the nurses say the rays could be harmful to the testicles and that may risk harm to my sperm. they specifically require a jock strap as apposed to regular underwear because the fibers criss cross and give more protection from the rays.
the nurses do recommend natural sunlight but i don't feel like joining a nudist community since i couldn't tan nude is my own place. if you do tan nude outside i believe protection is still recommended. just bunch up the jock strap on your crotch so you don't get tan lines.
i have always heard that tanning beds are more harmful to a person because it is concentrated, and a spray tan is recommended. the nurses have been trying to push me out the door because radiation is cumulative and i am very young to be getting all this radiation. though i think me going once every couple weeks is not bad especially since i don't burn.
epic to keep your nipples from burning and keep them sensitive use zinc oxide cream. that is the white cream you see life guards have on their nose because it is more protective than sun screen.
Ya I intentionally use a high pressure (it uses a combo of uv a and b) which gives you a deeper longer lasting tan so that I don't need to go 2 times a week. I actually stoped for 3 months and maintained a decent tone.
I guess ill have to purchase a jock then. I used to actually tan with an erection because I once has some tan lines from being flaccid (it gets cold in there so you know the drill lol) my ex used to laugh because it would look bright pink compared to the more tan parts haha
Thanks big916 I will try that.
Tanlines can be fun! :) My skin is like creamy-milky colored; some say the sun reflects on my stomach bright as a mirror  I used to wear a bracelet while sunbathing. When people called me pale, I had proof that I was actually 4 shades less white than I was in winter ;)
Epic, that cream not only works, it is very good to your skin too! There are also some suncreams that are more thick and contain zinc oxide cream.
Lol I will have to steal your idea RR as I'm white as snow and when I tan people don't realize I'm not as white as my natural color. Where do you get this cream, maybe walmart?
Also I apologize, most of my posts have messed up spelling. My phone doesn't show me what I'm writing till I'm done writing the whole post and I forget to look back on what I've wrote, I will try to remember to check my spelling before I post.

to avoid the tan lines i wish they made something like those pouches that you would put gold coins in made with the jock fabric. funny because you would be putting your "family jewels" in there.:)
yeah you should be able to get it over the counter there for cheap epic. I'm guessing since it was introduced to me in dermatology for free. if not a big name hospital should have it in their pharmacy or go to walgreens maybe.
LOL, Big! :D That would make a nice marketing ;)
Epic, we don't have Walmart over here ;) I get it at the local druggist. Can be found in the section of baby-care-products, since it's used a lot on babies with skinrash. The suncream with zinc oxide is usually the high protection kind for sensitive skin.
LOL, you may steal it! I especially did it in times I was turning in front of the mirror after each day in the sun, hoping to see "results". I used to think the pale skin made me look unhealthy or unattractive. Perhaps cool for you to know; there definitely are people that think it's pretty apart from those living in the era of Snow White! :) A friend of mine with dark skin said that she thinks white skin is absolutely beautiful. She took mine as an example. No-one had ever told me that. As I told my bf smiling, he said; "But off course it's pretty! Were you surprised? I think it is".
Tanning is dumb - and dangerous. Talk to any dermatologist. As with so many things, we get hung up on the present results and ignore what may be the result thirty years in future.
Good point brandye. I have been debating on tanning this summer, I usually do every summer. I'm so pale though that tanning only makes me a small shade darker. Not worth all the wrinkles when i get older. However I'm not going to lie if I actually tanned good, I would tan all the time.
it is recommended though to get about 10 minutes of sun without protection every day to produce vitiman D in the body. and epic be happy with your skin tone. look at anne hathaway, she is beautiful and is fair skin.

tanning makes some people look stupid....seriously
it looks good on some and some just need to hang it up....i was at hooters the other day and this one chick looked terrible...looked like she tanned and then spray tanned on top of that.....rest of her body looked ok but her face looks like it took a toll from all the tanning
and btw this was a young girl
I guess it's why I nowadays do like sunbathing, yet I don't like tanning no more ;)
I think tanning is about achieving result. Whereas sunbathing is simply about relaxing; getting all warm and fuzzy :)

well some people aren't made to be in the sun for long periods of time....out here by the beach, i constantly see people getting sunburnt all the time just because they wanna be darker.....some people need to give up
as for me, i'm naturally tanned all year round and even though i can withstand the sun alot longer than most, i don't like to be out in the sun for really long periods of time because being sun burnt is not fun
Yeah so do I RR. I miss the recreational club I use to have a membership to. 24 hr fitness a major chain here in ca don't have outdoor pools and lounge chairs.:(
About using something to see how much one has tanned; I have seen girls get tan tattoos They are usually above the bikini bottom on the tummy. You could get a rose RR.
The problem with tanning is that people do not use sunscreen on their face. Or they forget how sensitive your face is. I personally have a tan face. Just everyday sunlights gives me a good complexion. For ever 2 or 3 months I tan, I get maybe 1 session where I don't cover my face with a towel. I also don't burn too easily. I can get very very dark but unless I spend all day in the sun unprotected, I don't have a problem.
And I look at sunbathing as tanning RR. I mean ill go lay outside for a few minutes at times. About 10 tp 15 minutes while wearing suncreen. I get tan but I love laying out in the sun. It feels good and I notice a difference in mood and overall skin complexion.
Also a note about tanning, yes people can look dumb if they spend too much time doing it. For instance double dipping (tan then spary tan) looks like garbage. So do spray tans in general. I for one look much better when I'm in the sun all summer. But during the winter I get very white and you can se the veins in my chest and shoulders. Not sticking up above the skin type vascularity. You just see a ton of green veins beneath the skin. Looks gross.
I do notice the different mood too! I only sunbath at the end of the day with a cap over my face, mostly after swimming. I like nude or topless better, just because it feels so great to be naked :) And somehow; you cream the skin better. Ever noticed how people mostly have these sunburns at the edges of bathingsuits?

That's exactly what I thought people think. It's probably one of the reasons why I find dark skin so beautiful. Yet my friend told me that those veins are minor imperfection and showed me how her skin has all these different colorings. She said it's very common among those with dark skin. So everyone has his/her own emphasize on what they consider gross/beautiful. The grass is always greener... Perhaps; people just need to appreciate what they have more :)
About using something to see how much one has tanned; I have seen girls get tan tattoos They are usually above the bikini bottom on the tummy. You could get a rose RR.
Ha, ha, my tummy changes shades about the least of all my skin ;) But the idea is cute.
even tho i'm light-skin/brown skin (lol @ naturally tanned....i'm mixed, but in the U.S. considered black), in the winter season, I get lighter, eye color changes, and the veins in my arms are more visible than in the summer season.....and like what RR said, yes we do have parts of skin that are lighter than others.....so i guess you can say i'm two-toned.....it blends well on me....it would be stupid for me to tan anyway.....but i do know some females that are my skin complexion that do tan just to even everything out.....most of them are models though
My only problem is that my lifting routines has coused a lot of vascularity. Its kinda cool because a quick posing set and BAM I have a roadmap of green in my chest. Even my abs.
If it was a few ok no big deal. But with the high number of visible veins its odd. I wouldn't care if they stuck up above the skin. At least then it wouldn't look like I have a disease bahahahaha.
And I think the 2 tone is a little off. If you look at some people, they are naturally pale. And some are naturally tan. But the "2 tone" comes from being in the sun vs not or even being in the sun in clothes. I usually am 3 colors. My arms are one, my torso another, and my hips and glutes another. This is attributed to the fact that I wear shirts in pulic and just shorts around the house.
And RR its very nice being naked. I'm usually nude the entire time my family is away on vacation, even so bold as to go into my yard nude. (High fences). Its also very refreshing being barefoot all the time.
i meant 2 tone in a sense like on top of my arms are darker and then it fades to a lighter shade.....but yea you right....my clothes make me light in areas that the sun doesn't see much of
any sort of coverage will provide SPF protection from UV rays (some more than others)
When I was a bit younger and not thinking about the long term effects, I used to lay on the floor in front of our big sliding glass door with nothing more than a sock pulled on over my naughty bits. It provided enough protection to keel from burning.
I do have to agree that tan lines can be sexy if done right and the tanned part doesn't have to be as dark as my grandmother's mahogany furniture. It just goes to show a persons comfort level of baring a little skin which is part of the turn on
Ya I think its terrible to see girls who have a bikini tanned on themselves and it goes from bronze/carmel to ghost white breasts or pubic moun.
I had 1 girlfriend that had a golden hue with a little bit of a tan line. Very sexy. But it has to be done right. Just like a lower back tattoo can be incredibly sexy or incredibly distasteful.
I know that one girl from Scott Pilgrim vs The World is amazing! She is ghost white and wearing black underwear...the combination of the pale skin with the black is sexy. But aside from that I don't find super ghost white too great.
The friend I'm talking about is a true black beauty :) The lighter spots are hands, feet and every other place where the skin folds or is exposed to rubbing. Off course; parts that are clothed or more exposed to the sun do become lighter/darker, which I think is the case with any skin-color. I just hadn't noticed until she showed me that some parts turn so much lighter. Still; I find her skin very pretty! When she returns from a sunny holiday, she's like a black pearl (and I don't mean the ship from some piraty adventure ;))
I think we'd call your skin mocha here, Q (the sweet color of creamed coffee). I mean; when they said Obama is the first "black" president of the US, people here looked at eachother and shrugged. His skin is somewhat darker, but to call it black seems an overstatement ;) What I find difficult when talking skin color, is that there appear to be so many terms that are thought of as insulting (and which terms changes so quickly too!)... Please take my word I mean absolutely no offense in either of my posts.
well in the U.S., they use the term African-American, but i'm not from Africa......so the term to use is Black, even though I'm mixed.......I'm ok with that, being that my family history is part black.....Just like my wife.....she's a Pacific Islander, but people just say she's Asian......she's not from this country, but she's mixed and can also be considered black......when she fills out her race, she puts Asian for the most part
I just had my nipples pierced about a month ago, is it safe to tan with them in? I have had my bellybutton pierced for 6 years now and it is completly healed so I just take it out before I tan, mostly to avoid a tan line. However I think its still too early to take them out that long.
The latest info re: tanning.
For those younger than 40 years: 15 minutes three times per week
Those older than 40: 30 minutes three times per week
That's NO sunscreen and completely naked.
Apparently it won't hurt your boys, Ducy.
Seems they've had to rethink their position because a lot of medical problems like irritable bowel syndrome are made worse/caused by a lack of vitamin D which acts more like a hormone than a vitamin.
Since I'm over 40, yep! 15 minutes per side!
Nipples can take up to a year to heal. Be very careful with them. I used to put a dab of sunscreen on each nipple before going out. Id say give it 2 more months.
EEK I think that only refers to natural sun light. Ducy I believe said he goes to a tanning salon, those uv rays are much more concentrated. The amount of time you have stated seems safe because I dont think many would get burned or any color. Not even my white hiney that hasn't seen the light of day would get burnt;) I think it is better to be safe than sorry if ducy wants kids and cover up with a jock strap. The nurses I talk to in treatment are specialized in dermatology so they should know best.

Really?! That would certainly explain why I have less complaints in summer :) I had thought it had to something with being more relaxed and getting those feel-good-hormones flowing or perhaps the sweating and drinking more water which cleanses your body better or something like that... Anyways, makes me wonder; why not give vitamin D-supplements to IBS-patients? I'm going to do some searching on this. And I'll make sure to ask my doctor next time I'm in for a check-up. EEK, if you do have a reference, could you give me that jump-start?
big - Ducy shouldn't use tanning beds at all. Waste of money. Also where do you think I get my info from? I don't just make this stuff up, ya know.
RR - I sent you the link in a pm. Hope it helps!
no no EEK i trust that you would not lead us blindly. i have just heard less amounts of time and that you don't have to be nude. you know the uv rays can penetrate your clothes. opinions have changed i guess.
It isn't true that clothing doesn't block UV - it does between 80 to 95% depending upon the material. I had to special order my 'tanning swimsuits' which are specifically made to only have an SPF value of 4.
I remember doing experiments in my college physics class where we measured the amounts of UV that passed thru various objects and the average cotton tshirt was about an SPF30-35 equivalent, however once wet the SPF factor dropped to about 15-20 and the visible light spectrum passed right thru

Hence the increase in the incidence of rickets and other pertinent maladies in countries where women wear burqas.
