nightmare infection

to make a long story short, i thought i had a yeast infection, but was not entirely sure. i went to a gyn and they would not let me see a doctor, so sent me to the nurse practitioner instead. she looked at it for about three seconds and shoved me out the door with a Diflucan pill.

the pill did nothing so i went back, and asked if maybe they should be taking a culture or something...or doing some kind of test to be sure this was a yeast infection in the first place. they again refused to do a test, and this time sent me home with a Monistat 7 day kit.

After the 7 day treatment, my symptoms were drastically improved, but did not completely go away. now it feels like it is coming back again and i don't know what i should do. :(

With two tries and the infection still present you MUST see a responsible doctor. I do not know where you are but the medical support you are getting is not acceptable anywhere in the developed world.

Ditto. Diflucan, is only good for treating one type of yeast there are other's which it will not treat. A culture is a must to establish what you have and handing out a pill or a Monostat pack is only done after it's been established a patient has a history of them and are familiar with the symptoms.

ok so i called several offices that were approved by my insurance. the person that answered the phone at one of the clinics said that i probably don't need an appointment, and that i should buy another monistat kit and use it again. the earliest appointment i could find was in December  is it safe to wait that long? or should i just go to emergency care or something???

NO! It is inhuman to make any woman with some unknown vaginitis to wait that long. Other complications could arrive. Recognize that the one who advised another Monistat kit is a receptionist!

I do not know how the US medical care system works but there has got to be a way to get some form of immediate care.

The question I have is; what makes therm 100% certain it's yeast? Yes, your symptoms subsided but no one did a smear. If the next appointment is December, I would go to a Minor Emergency Center (Or regular ED) or Planned Parenthood and they will do a culture (this is routine treatment and what I do). They should discharge you with medication and call you in 3 days with the results. But NO you cannot wait until December.

What if you go back to the office you were seen in and ask for a culture to be done? If a patient asks (assuming you are in the US) it is done.

i do live in the US and asked for a culture the first two times i went in. they said they could "tell by looking at it" ...i don't know if it is just me but sometimes i get the feeling they are not taking me seriously because i am a kid...or at least look like one although i am legally an adult.

i just moved to this state, and i have yet to see a planned parenthood, but i will look into locating one. this state has also been ranked as having the worst healthcare in the country

Try going to an ER, really they are not just for major emergencies. Many times people wind up there in an absence of their doctor doing "the right thing". Where I am as a NP, is a walk in emergency center and many times patients have the same issue and in the ER the same holds true. In Family Practice though most go to their own Gyn for these issues but it can be handled if needed. My point is; look for another route and just get yourself seen!

I know the "wait" for new patients to see a GYN is long. The doc should have done a culture regardless. Many times they have you come back after treatment for a repeat culture b/c if the yeast is so great it will mask the bacteria. But after a course of vag. suppositories it can be re-checked as soon as 24 hours after stopping them.

Just treating it, it poor medical practice. Many women get them and after initial diagnosis will get a med called in since they know what it is, but if they are very frequent it calls for another visit. And there are better regimes then Mono 10 day; however, it is personal preference.

I saw a commercial on tv the other day for the Vagisel testing kit...
In the commercial the lady is like... "itching, burning... is it another yeast infection? or something more?" LOL

I am not sure how it works... or what all it can tell you.. but it couldn't hurt!

haha! yeah i've seen that too! i tried to buy it the other day, but in this state, they lock up all of their condoms, lube, and yeast infection treatments and i had to ask like 4 different employees to open it and they couldn't find the manager with the keys  so i decided to skip it and maybe try somewhere else...(i already felt stupid enough for having to ask someone to get it for me in the first place...why would they lock something like that up anyway? :( )

NO!! Go to the county health department nearest you. Unless you HAVE TO see your regular OB/GYN, or the one assigned to u by your insurance company, forget the ER, your OB/GYN, or any other quickie-doctor. THE HEALTH DEPT CANNOT REFUSE YOU, CHARGE YOU IF U DONT HAVE $$, OR deny your request to RUN CULTURES IF YOU REQUEST THEM. But you must know who, when u had sexual relations with (condom or not), and have a current signed release of medical history form (known as HIPAA laws of 1992) from your previous caregivers...demand it!! If they wont help you call the BBB (BETTER BUSINESS BOARD), your state medical board, insurance company and report those who refuse u or give u inadequate care. Doctors/medical facilitators MUST have a current licencse to practice in your STATE & carry malpractice insurance for a reason: so you dont die because of someone elses negligence and laziness!! I wish u best of luck that all is well, & that this unfortunate experience has made u a bit wiser for the future! Marianne :) ...PS: NEVER TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR PHYSICAL, SEXUAL, EMOTIONAL & MENTAL HEALTH!

so after waiting around for 3 hours i was finally able to see another nurse practitioner. after another half hour or so of debating whether my medical records were accurate since they were "not from the fine state of -insert crap state-" they finally did a culture...and a few other procedures i said i did not want.

NOW i have another problem. the nurse was very rough with the tools and i felt something metal scrape/pinch against my rectal area. after going to the bathroom it would appear i have a slight tear. how can i make this heal faster? i would think everytime i go to the bathroom any progress that has been made healing wise will be lost

After emptying your bowels, wash and put on a dab of anti-bacterial cream. Rude medicine but no biggie and should not affect your clearing up whatever vaginitis you have.

just out of curiosity, how long is an injury like this suppossed to take to heal?
i have not seen the slightist bit of improvement-it tears open again every time i go to the bathroom.

i've tried altering my diet, and recently i've tried to refrain from eating anything at all. i'm not seeing a solution short of either becoming bulimic or getting serious about this anorexia thing. :(
