FDA Approves PREMARIN Vaginal Cream

Quote:
PREMARIN (conjugated estrogens) Vaginal Cream 0.5 g has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a new indication and a new less frequent twice-weekly dosing regimen to treat moderate to severe postmenopausal dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse) announced Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, a division of Wyeth (NYSE: WYE).

"This approval is welcome news, especially when you consider that more than one in four untreated postmenopausal women experience dyspareunia, a symptom of vulvar and vaginal atrophy, which typically does not subside without treatment," says Gloria Bachmann, M.D., Director of the Women's Health Institute at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, N.J. and Chief of the OB/GYN service at the teaching hospital.

This is good news. It is especially good news for people like my mom who are going through menopause and who may need such a cream after menopause to make sex easier for them.

As great as this sounds...it can not be used for those who have a family history of estrogen sensitive CA.

Not all women require "treatment" for menopausal symptoms other than hot flashes or occasional lack of libido which eventually subside with time! It's more of a "convenience" to not have these symptoms. Post-menopausal does not mean end of easy sex!!!

Do you live somewhere other than the USA? I ask because I don't see how you could get it before now since the FDA just approved it.

Premarin had been around for a long time...the cream is new.
