Denmark: Proposal to ban child circumcision

Several parliamentary parties are considering creating legislation that would spare all children from circumcision - not just girls

A proposal to ban circumcision for boys may be on its way to parliament after intense discussions by MPs over the past week, reports Kristeligt Dagblad newspaper.

Interesting. Echoes a lot of the arguments we've had here on this forum. And I'm sure it will be just as contentious.

while I personally have no plans to circumcise my own kids, that does seem a little extreme... really drives home the point of how non-necessary of a procedure it is.
Bunch of parents will go to surrounding countries to have it done.

Wow. Personally I am against circumcision but there needs to at least be an exception for those who have religious reasons to circumcise. At least that's my opinion. But then again, one could also argue that there needs to be a religious exception for those who choose to circumcise their female children as well. So, I don't know. I'm a little torn on allowing religious exceptions. What do the rest of you think?

If it were my call I'd leave it to my child to decide, just as he would ultimately decide what (if any) religion he believes in. Obviously parents with strong religious beliefs that dictate circumcision most likely wouldn't feel that way.

Yes, and that is my point. The religions that require circumcision which would be Islam and Judaism I believe also require the parents to raise the children in the faith. Doing so would mean getting your male child circumcised. So, should there be a religious exception clause to a law like this or not?
