Condom use reduces risk of bacterial vaginosis

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - For women who have a high risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease, their risk of developing bacterial vaginosis and the associated changes in vaginal microflora is reduced if they use condoms during every sexual encounter, according to a report in the journal Epidemiology.

There is a post today to a woman suffering chronic vaginosis. This is an accurate account you cite but it is not the end all and be all.

You are reading an epidemiological report filtered through a journalist and interpreted by you. Until you dig into all the variables and statistical analysis you really do not know what is being said. But part of it will be that the condom helps but we still do not completely understand recurring vaginosis.

It is true that condoms are not the be all and end all for bacterial vaginosis. I did not intend for my post to imply that either. However, for some women, using a condom may be what prevents their next bout of vaginosis.
