Gay Couple Arrested For Kissing At Rome's Coliseum

(Rome) Two gay men have been charged with "lewd conduct" for kissing in front of the Coliseum in Rome.

The pair were rushed into a police car and taken to a police station where they were held for several hours. Eventually they were issued a summons to appear in court and released.

If convicted the pair could be sentenced up to two years in prison.

Wow. How incredibly bigoted. Had this been a heterosexual couple, nothing would have happened in all likelihood. That said, I don't know much about Italian or Roman culture and taboos so it is possible that I am wrong on that point.

It's ironic insofar as the origins of the Coliseum! The whole matter is absurd and biased at best.

Very true. I suppose that the Vatican probably holds a great deal of influence over the laws in Rome eh?

I meant the irony being; the coliseum being used prior to Christianity, during Pagan, and for entertainment with the result many times was a man left behind to die a savage death. Then, it halted when everyone was "ordered" to be Christian. I would have no doubt that due to it being Rome, the Papal influence & Vatican there is some influences with on the actions of men & women. It's pretty sad.

For some reason when I approached the building, I had the "creeps" and did not go in...bad vibes or something yet had no issue going through Pompeii.
