Ad for safe sex: massive floating condom

Quote:
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - Concertgoers at a festival in the Dutch city of Lichtenvoorde were treated to an unusual sight Friday: A pink hot air balloon 127 feet high, shaped exactly like a condom, drifting lazily across the sky.

The balloon, with the words "Vrij Veilig" — Dutch for "Safe Sex" — was launched by the public health service in the eastern district of Gelre-Ijssel, near the German border.

Kudos to the ad designers and others responsible for getting this massive ad afloat. We need more educational ads such as this. We need to promote condom usage as much as possible. Condoms are one of the only ways to protect against most STIs and people need to realize this. Educational ad campaigns such as this one are one way to get people to realize that or at least to serve as a reminder to practice safer sex.

lol! Yeah that's true. I personally think they need a better ad campaign than this new "evolve" one. For one thing, its not likely to be viewed positively by conservative Christians or other conservatives who do not believe in evolution. And yes, conservatives have sex too.

In all seriousness, I think it's brilliant. Bring it into the limelight. People need to know.

I agree. But how do we bring sex into the limelight when there are people out there who will do everything in their power, including boycotts, to eliminate such educational ads and such?

Okay, the steriotyping thing is not flying with me. I am a Catholic & a Republican they are not enough to make excuses for lack of education. I really am a very liberal person in my beliefs. The problem is not with the church it's with parents and their ideals.

I apologize. I did not intend to stereotype anything or anyone.

No need to apologize...many of us are very progressive these days! I just do not feel a political party such as the republicans should have any influence over sex education & when they use it as an example, it's poor on their behalf. I tend to follow in the belief of the republicans for small government and limited government intervention in individual choice. I am Catholic, I hear what the Church dictates yet have the view it's merely an institution for one to worship in which set guidelines, again individual choice should prevail. When one lives life as "dictated" without free thought, it makes me wonder about people. Stereotyping does not depict the true essence of beliefs and I do try to dispel the misnomer often. Many are moving from the traditional views of long known institutions.

I believe in Birth Control, sexual freedoms, and gay marriage

That's cool. I am also a Catholic though not a practicing one. I also believe in birth control, sexual freedoms, and gay marriage. I also believe in the pro-choice philosophy.
