New Law? (Canada): Allow "Anal Intercourse" with 14-Year-Olds

Liberal Party of Canada Policy Resolution: Allow "Anal Intercourse" with 14-Year-Olds

By John-Henry Westen

OTTAWA, November 22, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In what is likely a Canadian first for a major political party, the Liberal Party of Canada is proposing lowering the age of consent for "anal intercourse" in their publicly-released book of policy resolutions.

On Monday, the Liberal Party of Canada made available the text of the policy resolutions put forth by the Party's Provincial and Territorial Associations, commissions, and National Caucus. The policy resolutions are to be debated and voted upon at the Liberal Leadership and Biennial Convention to be held from November 28 to December 2, 2006, in Montréal.

Hmmmmmm. Not sure what to think of this one, really.

However, on a different but somewhat related note, this brings to mind a famous statement in the 70s by one of Canada's more "enlightened" PMs who declared that the Government had nothing to do in people's bedrooms - if I remember correctly, this was about "de-criminalising" gay sex...

What difference does it make? If people want to have anal sex they're going to do it anyway.

At first blush this sounds odd, but when you consider that the age of consent in Canada is 14 (in most cases), it makes sense. Right now, the law states that AoC for anal sex is 18, regardless of what the AoC for vaginal intercourse is. This just makes the AoC the same for both forms of sex.

Basically they are setting up to be prepared for another amendment that will raise the overall age of consent from 14 to 16. Because the party in power (still minority) is right-leaning, they would be more apt to avoid opposition to this because:
A) That they have already promised to raise overall consent to 16 as part of their last election campaign promises, so the age of consent would go up with it as well.
B) The majority of power is still fragmented between three left-leaning parties, so they don't want a gay rights battle that they know they'd lose. They don't want to overtly look like they are actively singling out and discriminating against gay minorities.

This is 'middle road' legislation that would equalize rights among straights and gays that has the best chance of succeeding, without interfering with the sensible plan to raise the age of consent to 16.

The 14 year old age of consent was supposedly made law back in the 1800s when a senator knocked up a 14 year old hooker. He didn't want to get in trouble so he changed the law. IMO it makes sense to raise this to 16 (with appropriate near-age exemptions) because it would help police combat child exploitation.
