PCHS teen activist wants to bring condoms to school

Quote:
A local student wants to distribute condoms at his school to curb the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy.

Asher Levine, a senior at Port Charlotte High School, is planning to stage a safe-sex education campaign at the beginning of April.

The first part of his campaign started on Friday when he handed Steve Dionisio, the school's principal, a letter detailing his plan, which includes giving out condoms and sexual health information to students on campus.

This is not Levine's first attempt to make change at PCHS. The young activist founded the district's first Gay/Straight Alliance in late fall.

We could really use more kids like this. What with all the "abstinence only education" programs out there, stuff like this is really vital in today's day and age.

yea thumb up for him. I think gym shouuld be replaced by sexual education. we all do some exercise out of school and for who don't a couple of hours gym ain't much but just 2 hours once a month can make a lot of difference in problems regarding sex

sexual education was a required class at my high school.

BTW: There was a girl that went to my high school that wore condoms pinned to her shirt, and passed out condoms. I guess her mother had AIDs or something and thats why she did it. I found an internet site advertising for a movie about it.

Now if we could only get music videos to promote safe sex instead of promiscuity we'd have a WAY better chance of making an impression on our young society.

We definitely need more kids like that--it is becoming more and more clear that abstinence-only programs are not working. Public schools need to educate our children about safe sex.

Three cheers for him! There were no sexual education classes at the school I went to, nor did my parents ever mention it (though they did talk a lot about abstinence). The more information there is out there about it, the fewer problems it's going to cause.
