Question Really Want To Shave

I'm a man and I'd really like to shave all of the hair around and on my penis & balls, but I'm kind of scared to do it as I've never shaved before with shaving cream and a razor (I use an electric shaver for my face). Can anyone tell me what razor and shaving cream I sould use and how to be safe about it? Additionally can you give me any tips like what "with the grain" and "against the grain" mean?

I know, I'm pretty clueless about this : /

There a thread on this somewhere I believe...

But anyways..

Always ue a brand new razor each time you shave there. I use a schick quatro, which seems to work just fine. Shaving cream or gel is a must to help keep you from nicking yourself. Before you shave soak yourself in warm water for 10 minutes or so before. Trim a little hair beforehand, if it is on the longish side.

Once you start to shave go once with the grain, and if you dont have sensitive skin once against the grain, trying to avoid to go over the same places more then twice. The first couple times I did it I did get a few nicks and red bumps, but after a while I got the hang of it. Afterwards put on some moisturizing lotion, and reapply later on if needed.

Hope this helps.

Do it in the shower - it's quicker, not to mention a lot less WEIRD than doing it standing in front of the bathroom mirror is. No shaving cream required.

Against the grain gives you a closer shave. I don't even bother shaving with the grain. Waste of time in my opinion...

"Against the Grain" means going against the direction of growth. you do get a smoother shave that way but you will probably get some ingrown hairs...and those ain't fun. Have you ever heard about the norelco bodygroom... it is an electric shaver specifically desigend for "sensitive areas". thats what i use, it gives you a pretty smooth shave too. obviously not as smooth as a razor though.

I absolutely swear by the Gillette Fusion for sensitive skin. I do not shave all the hair down there but I do shave a little around the base. I have very sensitive skin and have never gotten any irritation from a new Fusion, but other razors I have.

Trim it down short first, the razor will get through much easier. In the shower is easier, since it is easier to rinse. Rinse the razor after every stroke. I found hair conditioner works very well as a lubricant, and definitely use moisterizer afterwards. After you have gone over everywhere once, rinse off with warm water to get rid of cut hairs and excess lubricant so you can see everything more clearly, you can then easily see the bits you have missed. Start quite high, at the top of your pubes so you get a feel for what it is like.

With and against the grain.... Well, grow a bit of stubble on your face and run your hand over your cheek. You know how it is smooth in one direction, but rough and a bit sharp in another direction? The smooth direction is with the grain, the rough direction is against the grain. Its just the direction the hairs are growing, like arm hairs point toward your hand so that direction is with the grain. I have also found that going with the grain does nothing, but going against can be irritating. Try going sideways.

Give your GF a barbers blade, lather up and relax letting her do the work.....I would not recommend this if you have pissed her off at all though!!
