Morning After Pill

Ive got a question to ask about the morning after pill, I've done a bit of searching but I can't find anything to prove if this is a myth or not but.. Someone told me that the morning after pill can only be taken a few times in a womans life as it can cause them harm.

I'm a little worried because I came twice and we didn't use protection either of those time..

This is an interesting story. You haven't used protection because you apparently do not mind if you become a father, yet you want to know about this pill because you do? I'm confused.

Well, "morning after pill" means three different things. First, there is Plan B which is birth control hormone reformulated, repackaged and sold as emergency contraception. Second, many birth control pills are approved, in different doses, as emergency contraception. Third, there is mifepristone (RU486) which is not hormonal and which causes an emryo to be expelled.

The first two must be taken within 72 hours of your ejaculation. Yes, there are sites and nations that say a week but the effectiveness drops off measurably. Neither of these will affect an established pregnancy.

Mifepristone should not be taken (doctors will not prescribe it) until a few weeks after a missed period and is effective up to a few months after conception. This is a true abortion pill.

No woman who has used any of these is anxious to repeat the experience. The first two will often cause severe nausea, headache and mess up the menstrual cycle for a month or so. Mife- causes horrendous cramps, nausea, headache and wipes a woman out for a few days. All three are multiple dose.

I am aware of no regulating agency that warns against multiple use because of causing permanent damage. I am aware of many women who say, "no damned way."

So, inspite of Doc's reference, you need to learn a bit about the realities of sex and pregnancy and what to even ask about. If it is within 72 hours of your ejaculation, Plan B or the alternative doses of some birth control pill can help. If it has been more than 72 hours she has a few weeks to sweat it out and then get an appointment and then go through the "treatment." The alternatives are to have a baby or chemical or mechanical abortion.

I repeat Doc's question. But, also point out that ignorance is showing. Have your g/f get some medical advice. Any school clinic or women's health clinic will be happy to help her.

Most likely what you heard is a myth spun from multiple & repeated surgical TOP's [Termination of Pregnancy]. This was old stuff, unsure if it even applies currently due to the new methods available to the gyn surgeons.

We've talked about it and she's not taking the morning after pill, I've came inside her 4 times now and we've had sex alot more than that, we're just going to hope she doesn't get pregnant but if she does we're not to bothered about it because we both have decent jobs for our age and earn enough, we feel, to look after a child.

So, you are just jerking us around. I do not know what your, and her, age is or education level or job. I hope you realize that with a baby you will be setting up housekeeping (expensive) raising a child (expensive) and living on effectively reduced salaries (child care is expensive). Do you know how to set up a budget?

There is more to parenting than just having a "decent" job. You should at least halfway WANT to have a kid

Plus, it was determined that the MAP isn't going to kill someone... just have some unpleasant side effects... but none as unpleasant as a kid LOL
