Foreskin Retraction 0_o

I just found out about the fact that you should be able to pull the foreskin back over the glans of the penis. I had never heard this before, and now im pretty worried.
My friend says it happens during penetrative sex anyway due to tightness of the vagina.

Im only 17 years old, and honestly, it has never even occured to me to pull the foreskin that far back, it would hurt wont it?

Is this necessary to be able to do?

The foreskin should, when erect and ready to go, pull back over the glans. It is not uncommon for young men to have the problem you describe. The idea that the tightness of the vagina will retract it is wrong.

If the foreskin will not retract, it can cause problems having sex, can be painful during erection and can harbor lots of germs. In Israel, where almost everyone is circumcised, the incidence of cervical cancer is very low. That is caused by HPV. It appears that uncircumcised men are more likely to be carries because of the difficulty of maintaining proper hygiene. Most men handle this well but if the foreskin will not retract, it is difficult to impossible.

What to do about it? Talk to your doctor. You could be circumcised; you could be slit allowing retraction or you could decide to do nothing. That is up to you and the doctor. There is no way anyone can make a good guess on a message board.

I do ask my women patients getting married about the state of their penis-to-be and make some recommendations.

It is also possible to stretch the foreskin so that it will retract over the glans. It takes patience and persistence. You should start in a warm/hot bath which will relax the skin. Work at stretching it back over the glans. This process can take months, but it is an option other than surgery.

Other than a sexual issue, there IS a hygiene issue. The foreskin should be retracted to clean. There are diseases from a lack of cleanliness that affect not just any female you might be with, but yourself.

What kind of recommendations do you make? As an intact person, this topic is quite interesting to me.

I find it interesting that normal curiosity during the early teen years didn't have you fooling around with it. There is usually nothing to be worried about. The foreskin begins to separate from the Glans in the prepubescent years and has generally fully separated by the late teens, although the timeline can vary from individual to individual.

> Im only 17 years old, and honestly, it has never even occured to me to pull the foreskin that far back, it would hurt wont it?

It might or might not. It depends upon whether or not the foreskin has completely separated from the Glans or not, as well as the size of the opening. There was a thread over the weekend disucssing the matter of a tight albeit fully separated foreskin causing pain and discomfort when trying to retract it. If the foreskin has a wide opening that partially or almost covers the Glans then retraction should be easy. If it extends out in front wth a tiny opening then retraction might be difficult depending upon how pliant the skin is and how large the opening is. Generally speaking, once full separation from the Glans has occured, the foreskin will slide back and forth easily except as noted. Here is a link to some animated images. (Depending upon your d/l spead, it may take a few moments before you see any action.) http://www.erectionphotos.com/motion/MotionPage2.htm

> Is this necessary to be able to do?

Yes, no, & maybe.

Yes- because you will want to clean between the foreskin and Glans when you bathe

Yes- if you want variety in the type of sensations you experience when retracted vs when extended.

No- if touching and stimulating the Glans is too uncomfortable when exposed and touched directly.

Maybe- if you want to build up a tolerence in order to be able to stimulate the Glans directly once in a while and as an alternative to stimulating it directly.

As Brandye notes, it is important for the foreskin to retract when the penis becomes erect.

The foreskin should be able to go all the way back behind the Corona Rim of the Glans where it tucks in making a series of corrugations.

My foreskin overlaps the end of the penis by about 1cm (like a bottle neck squeezed together) Only recently did I realise that it's supposed to retract to allow the glans to be exposed (though the skin was very tight) I first noticed this when my girl gave me a handjob and the foreskin went right back.

I mentioned this to my Urologist (Who was examining a lump in my testicle - nothing sinister, just cysts I get) He tried to retract it an prescribed 2% hydrocortizone gel (after a bath to apply the HC to the rim of the foreskin for a month. This I did, and while the foreskin retracts easier, it's now quite hard and painful to get it to come back in fact it sometimes rolls up. I have scheduled another appointment with him to discuss circumcision (which he said he'd be happy to do at the first appointment)

My advice would be to see your doc if you're at all worried.

Moose,

If the uncircumcised man has the problems being discussed here, she and he and a doctor should have a chat. These issues can lead to a difficult sex life and also hygiene problems. It is better to get this worked before problems arise. If her husband to be retracts normally, I make nor recommendation because there will likely be no problems.

One thing about the circumsizing deal,,I think it depends on how old you are, because I know when I had it done I couldn't walk for a year!!

Seems I can do it, when not erect anyway. Thought to be honest it is pretty uncomfortable to touch the glans....

Does it lose sensitivity after a while? How do I make it less sensitive?
